The Kathmandu Jazz Festival or Jazzmandu is an annual jazz festival, organised by Upstairs Ideas in Kathmandu, Nepal. [1] The festival's name is a portmanteau of jazz and Kathmandu. [2]
The first Jazzmandu was held in 2002, building upon the success of the first 'Jazz at Patan' event the previous year. The festival's first edition included performances by the renowned Australian jazz and swing musician Don Burrows, UK singer Natalie Williams, and Australian Jazz/Funk outfit Afro Dizzi Act, who have since returned to Jazzmandu on several occasions.

Jazzmandu has built on its starting momentum to grow into an internationally recognized, week-long festival, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2012. It has featured such renowned artists as legendary Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu, and American jazz drummer Ari Hoenig.
Jazzmandu 2007 was cancelled due to political unrest and civil conflict in Nepal.
Jazzmandu actively promotes music education in Nepal, organizing band competitions, workshops and master classes for young local musicians., [3] and working closely with the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory.
Jazzmandu 2012 will run from November 1 to 7 and will feature American drummer Tito Puente, Jr., and Thai ensemble Rootman, among others. [4]

The University of California Jazz Ensembles, also known as the UC Jazz Ensembles, UC Jazz, or UCJE, is the student jazz organization founded in 1967 on the University of California, Berkeley, campus. Founded in 1967, it comprises one or more big bands, numerous jazz combos, a vocal jazz ensemble, an alumni big band, and instructional classes. With a mission statement to foster a community for the performance, study, and promotion of jazz at U.C. Berkeley, its Wednesday Night big band provides free concerts every Thursday noon on Lower Sproul Plaza, its various units perform throughout the San Francisco Bay Area including area high schools, travel to collegiate jazz festivals, and perform overseas, and for many years it sponsored the annual Pacific Coast Jazz Festival. It also provides master classes by its instructors and clinics by prominent guest artists. It has nurtured numerous musicians who have become professional jazz musicians and educators. UC Jazz Ensembles is one of three groups, with the Cal (marching) Band and UC Choral Ensembles, forming Student Musical Activities (SMA), a department within Cal Performances on the U.C. The Gai Jatra Third Gender March is an LGBT March on the Newar festival Gai Jatra. The Blue Diamond Society organizes the march, which celebrates different forms of Pride. Blue Diamond Society organizes, and brings LGBT people to dance on the streets during this festival. Unlike other Pride marches in Nepal, it isn't seen as a political movement, but a celebration of an existing festival.
Ghode Jatra(Nepali:घोडे जात्रा) is a horse festival native to Kathmandu. The festival occurs annually on mid March or early April.
