Jeff Deverett is a Canadian film producer and professor at San Diego State University known for producing Full Out (2015), Kiss and Cry (2017) and The Samuel Project (2018). [1] [2]

Life and career

Deverett and his twin brother Larry were born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [3] He graduated with a Finance Degree from University of Toronto, [4] a Law Degree from Osgoode Hall Law School [5] and became a film professor at San Diego State University. [6] In 2017, Deverett launched the San Diego Regional Film Commission to help boost the filmmaking reputation in San Diego County. [7] By 2022, he produced three films distributed by Netflix. [8]

He went on to earn a PhD in Film and Television Studies from UCLA (1994), completed a University of California postdoctoral research fellowship in 1997, and earned a Master of Public Administration from SFSU in 2023.

The San Diego Black Film Festival is an annual film festival held in San Diego, California. The festival recognizes African American movies and production. It was founded in 2002 as the Noir Film Festival. It is one of the largest black film festivals in the United States.

Zeinabu irene Davis is an American filmmaker and professor in the Department of Communication at the University of California, San Diego. In 1985, she received her M.A in African studies at UCLA and went on to earn her M.F.A in Film and Television production in 1989. Davis is known as one of the graduates and filmmakers of the L.A. Rebellion. The L.A. Rebellion refers to the first African-American students who studied film at UCLA. Through their collective efforts, they sought to put an end to the prejudices of Hollywood by creating experimental and unconventional films. The main goal of these films was to create original Black stories and bring them to the main screens. Her works in film include short narratives, documentaries and experimental films that focus heavily on the African American female perspective.
