Townsend earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Brown University in 1994. He completed his Ph.D. in organismic and evolutionary biology at Harvard University in 2002 under the direction of Daniel Hartl. [3] [4] After receiving his doctoral degree,Townsend was a Miller Research Fellow at the University of California,Berkeley, where he worked in the lab of John W. Taylor. [3]
Susan Lee Lindquist,ForMemRS was an American professor of biology at MIT specializing in molecular biology, particularly the protein folding problem within a family of molecules known as heat-shock proteins, and prions. Lindquist was a member and former director of the Whitehead Institute and was awarded the National Medal of Science in 2010.
William McGinnis,Ph.D. is a molecular biologist and professor of biology at the University of California San Diego. At UC San Diego he has also served as the Chairman of the Department of Biology from July 1998 - June 1999,as Associate Dean of the Division of Natural Sciences from July 1,1999 - June 2000,and as Interim Dean of the newly established Division of Biological Sciences from July 1,2000 - February 1,2001. Dr. McGinnis was appointed Dean of the Divisional Biological Sciences on July 1,2013.
Huntington Faxon Willard is an American geneticist. In 2014,he was named to head the Marine Biological Laboratory, and a professor in human genetics at the University of Chicago. He stepped down from leading the lab in 2017 to return to research. Willard was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2016. Earlier, beginning in 2003 he was the Nanaline H. Duke Professor of Genome Sciences, the first Director of the Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy, and Vice Chancellor for Genome Sciences at Duke University Medical Center in Durham,North Carolina.
Christoph Carl Herbert "Chris" Adami is a professor of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics,as well as professor of Physics and Astronomy,at Michigan State University.
The Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) was founded in 1915 by Charles-Edward Amory Winslow and is one of the oldest public health masters programs in the United States. It is consistently rated among the best schools of public health in the country, receiving recent rankings of 3rd for its doctoral program in epidemiology. YSPH is both a department within the School of Medicine as well as an independent,CEPH-certified school of public health.
Arthur L. Horwich is an American biologist and Sterling Professor of Genetics and Pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine. Horwich has also been a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator since 1990. His research into protein folding uncovered the action of chaperonins, protein complexes that assist the folding of other proteins;Horwich first published this work in 1989.
Franz-Ulrich Hartl is a German biochemist and Managing Director of the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry. He is known for his pioneering work in the field of protein-mediated protein folding and is a recipient of the 2011 Lasker Award along with Arthur L. Horwich.
Emil L. Smith was an American biochemist who studied protein structure and function as well as biochemical evolution.
Günter P. Wagner is an Austrian-born evolutionary biologist who is Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary biology at Yale University, and head of the Wagner Lab.
Norman Richard Pace Jr. is an American biochemist, and is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Molecular,Cellular and Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado. He is principal investigator at the Pace lab.
Stephen Joseph Elledge is an American geneticist. He is currently the Gregor Mendel Professor of Genetics and Medicine in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School and in the Division of Genetics at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, and is an Investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He earned his B.Sc. in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and his Ph.D. in biology from MIT. His research is focused on the genetic and molecular mechanisms of eukaryotic response to DNA damage. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and has been a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigator since 1993.
Marcus William Feldman is the Burnet C. and Mildred Finley Wohlford Professor of Biological Sciences, director of the Morrison Institute for Population and Resource Studies, and co-director of the Center for Computational,Evolutionary and Human Genomics (CEHG) at Stanford University. He is an Australian-born mathematician turned American theoretical biologist, best known for his mathematical evolutionary theory and computational studies in evolutionary biology, and for originating with L. L. Cavalli-Sforza the theory of cultural evolution.
Michael R. Dietrich is a professor of the history and philosophy of science at the University of Pittsburgh. His research concerns developments in twentieth century genetics, evolutionary biology, and developmental biology, with a special emphasis on scientific controversies.
Daniel L. Hartl is the Higgins Professor of Biology in the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. He is also a principal investigator at the Hartl Laboratory at Harvard University. His research interests are focused on evolutionary genomics, molecular evolution, and population genetics.
Thomas J. Near is an American evolutionary ichthyologist who is currently a Professor and Chair of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University as well as the Bingham Oceanographic Curator of Ichthyology at the Peabody Museum of Natural History.
