A chief executive officer (CEO), also known as a central executive officer (CEO), chief administrator officer (CAO) or just chief executive (CE), is one of a number of corporate executives charged with the management of an organization – especially an independent legal entity such as a company or nonprofit institution. CEOs find roles in a range of organizations, including public and private corporations, non-profit organizations and even some government organizations. The CEO of a corporation or company typically reports to the board of directors and is charged with maximizing the value of the business, which may include maximizing the share price, market share, revenues or another element. In the non-profit and government sector, CEOs typically aim at achieving outcomes related to the organization's mission, usually provided by legislation. CEOs are also frequently assigned the role of main manager of the organization and the highest-ranking officer in the C-suite.
The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce is a Canadian multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered at CIBC Square in the Financial District of Toronto, Ontario. The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce was formed through the 1961 merger of the Canadian Bank of Commerce and the Imperial Bank of Canada, in the largest merger between chartered banks in Canadian history. The Schulich School of Business is the business school of York University located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She was appointed to that position in July 2008, and she voluntarily stepped down at the end of her renewable four-year term in June 2012. She currently serves as Manager of the financial sector development division, at the African Development Bank. She was appointed to that position in December 2013.
Sandra Hanington was the Master of the Royal Canadian Mint. She was appointed to this position on February 11, 2015 and resigned on July 1, 2018. She was the fourth woman to serve in this capacity. Prior to her appointment, she was a member of the Board of Directors of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation in 2014. She is also a recognized Canadian philanthropist, having previously served on the board of Kids Help Phone and co-founding Jack.org, a mental health organization. Following the resignation of Brian Krzanich as Intel CEO, he was named interim CEO on June 21, 2018, and appointed to full-time CEO on January 31, 2019. As of February 15, 2021 Swan was replaced by VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger. In July 2021, Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz announced that Swan will be joining the firm.
