Jennifer Malat is an American sociologist. She is dean of the College of Arts &Sciences at the University of New Mexico.
Malat was raised in Rochester,Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota for her Bachelor of Science degree in sociology. She then traveled to Michigan to earn her Master's degree and PhD in sociology from the University of Michigan. [1]
Upon receiving her PhD,Malat joined the faculty of the Department of Sociology at the University of Cincinnati as an assistant professor in 2000. She was promoted to associate professor in 2006 and full professor in 2014. [2] Malat’s research [3] examines how racial inequity affects health.
In 2011,she was appointed director of the University of Cincinnati's Kunz Center for Social Research. Later,Malat co-founded The Cincinnati Project with Earl Wright II in 2013 and served as its founding director until 2020. The project was a research initiative aimed at promoting equity throughout the city. [4] In 2016,Malat served as the first associate dean-- later,the title was changed to divisional dean-- for the social sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Cincinnati.
In 2020,Malat left her position at the University of Cincinnati for Virginia Commonwealth University. She first served as dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences. [2] Then in 2022,she joined the Office of Development and Alumni Relations to support senior leaders' efforts to ensure an inclusive approach to philanthropy at Virginia Commonwealth University. [5]
In 2023,Malat was appointed dean of the College of Arts &Sciences at the University of New Mexico, [6] and she began her term on August 21,2023. [7]
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a public research university in Richmond,Virginia. VCU was founded in 1838 as the medical department of Hampden–Sydney College,becoming the Medical College of Virginia in 1854. In 1968,the Virginia General Assembly merged MCV with the Richmond Professional Institute,founded in 1917,to create Virginia Commonwealth University. The VCU Medical Center is Virginia Commonwealth University's medical campus located in downtown Richmond,Virginia,in the Court End neighborhood. In the 1990s,the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals Authority was created to oversee MCV Hospitals. The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Center for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering (CERSE) is a comprehensive,interdisciplinary,University-approved Center of Excellence furthering the science and serving the needs of persons with disabilities. CERSE is administrated and coordinated by the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation,funded through the VCU Office of Research,the School of Medicine,the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R),and the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS). CERSE serves as the mechanism for coordination,consolidation,and support of evidence based disability research endeavors from multiple schools and departments at VCU and a number of affiliate organizations. In partnership with the clinical services provided through the VCU Medical Center,the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center (VAMC),Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Programs,VCU Children’s Hospital of Richmond,the U.S. Navy,the U.S. Marine Corps and other affiliated programs,CERSE has brought together researchers,clinicians,rehabilitation specialists,therapists,and academicians from the numerous backgrounds and specialties. These collaborations optimize resources,avoid duplication of effort,and increase the capacity to successfully compete for high-level grant and foundation funding. CERSE is currently composed of seven Research Cores built on the strength of existing disability research and training:
Jennifer L. Mnookin is an American legal scholar and academic leader,serving as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Madison since 2022. A leading expert on the law of evidence and forensic science,she previously served as dean of the UCLA School of Law,where she was David G. Price and Dallas P. Price Professor of Law. While at UCLA Law,she co-founded and co-directed the Program on Understanding Law,Science and Evidence. From 1998 to 2005,Mnookin was on the faculty of the University of Virginia School of Law,with one year (2002-03) spent as a visiting professor at Harvard Law School. She joined the faculty of UCLA Law in 2005,where she then served as vice dean for faculty and research from 2007–09,vice dean for external appointments and intellectual life from 2012–13,and dean from 2013-2022. On April 23,2020,she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. On May 16,2022,the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents announced they had unanimously chosen Mnookin to be the 30th chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She took office on August 4,2022.

Joan Huber is an American sociologist and professor emeritus of sociology at Ohio State University. Huber served as the 79th president of the American Sociological Association in 1989. Huber taught at the University of Notre Dame from 1967 to 1971,eventually moving to Illinois,where she taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. While instructing numerous sociology courses at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign,Huber served as the director of Women's Studies Program for two years (1978–1980),and then became the head of the Department of Sociology in 1979 until 1983. In 1984,Huber left Illinois for an opportunity at the Ohio State University,where she became the dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences,coordinating dean of the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences,and senior vice president for academic affairs and university provost. During her time,Huber was president of Sociologists for Women in Society from 1972 to 1974,the Midwest Sociological Society from 1979 to 1980,and the American Sociological Association from 1988 to 1989. Being highly recognized for her excellence,in 1985 Huber was given the Jessie Bernard Award by the American Sociological Association. Not only was Huber an instructor of sociology at multiple institutions or president of different organization,she also served different editorial review boards,research committees,and counseled and directed many institutions on their sociology departments.
