Jens Stegemann (born November 22, 1971) is a German sprint and marathon canoeist who competed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was born in Berlin. In 1989 he was junior world champion at Men's K-4 1000m. Together with Olaf Scheu, he won the bronze medal in the K2 at the Canoe Marathon World Championships in Copenhagen. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, he achieved the semifinal of the K-1 1000 m event. He ended his career by starting medical school in 1993.
Gelindo Bordin is an Italian former athlete, winner of the marathon race at the 1988 Summer Olympics. He is the first Italian to have won an Olympic gold in the marathon and the only male to win both the Boston Marathon and the Olympic gold medal in this event.
Ben Fouhy is a New Zealand flatwater and marathon canoeist who has been competing since the early 2000s. Competing in three Summer Olympics, he won the silver in the K-1 1000 m event at Athens in 2004, as well as finishing fourth in the 2008 Olympics and ninth in the 2012 Olympics in the same event. He is the recipient of the 2003 Halberg Award for NZ Sportsman of the Year and a former world record holder in the K1 1000m event.
Nils Olav Fjeldheim is a Norwegian sprint canoer and marathon canoeist who competed from 1998 to 2004. Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won a bronze in the K-2 1000 m event at Athens in 2004.

The men's marathon at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on 24 August at 7:30am in Beijing, ending in the Beijing National Stadium. It was the last time in Summer Olympics history that the start and/or finish of the men's marathon route was located inside the Olympic Stadium. Ninety-five athletes from 56 nations competed. The winner of the event was Samuel Wanjiru of Kenya, who set an Olympic record in the time of two hours, six minutes, and 32 seconds. It was Kenya's first victory in the men's marathon. Morocco won its first medal in the event since 1960, with Jaouad Gharib's silver. Tsegay Kebede of Ethiopia took bronze.
Kate Tenforde is an American long-distance runner from Milton, Massachusetts. She represented the United States in the 2004 Summer Olympics, competing in the 10,000 metres.
Thor Nielsen is a Danish sprint and marathon canoeist who competed from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s. He won five medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with two golds, two silvers, and a bronze.
Cyrille Carré is a French sprint and marathon canoeist who has competed since the late 2000s. He won a gold medal in the K-2 1000 m event at the 2007 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg.
Ivan Lawler is a British marathon canoeist who competed from the late 1980s to the late 1990s, winning five gold and two silver medals at the canoe marathon world championships. He also competed in canoe sprint, and won two medals in the K-2 10000 m event at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with a gold (1990) and a silver. At club level, he has always competed for Elmbridge canoe club.
Jens Nordqvist is a Swedish sprint canoer who competed in the early 1980s. He won two medals in the K-4 500 m event at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with a silver in 1981 and a bronze in 1982.
Emilio Merchán Alonso is a Spanish sprint and marathon canoeist who has competed since the mid-1990s. He won a gold medal in the K-2 1000 m event at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Dartmouth.
Gary Mawer is an Irish canoe sprinter who competed from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s (decade). At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, he was eliminated in the repechages of both the K-2 500 m and the K-2 1000 m event. Four years later, Mawer was eliminated in the heats of the K-1 500 m event and the semifinals of the K-1 1000 m event. Gary now has a stake in his family's poultry business in the UK (Wrexham) and Ireland (Annyalla). He works alongside his father John Snr, Brother John Jnr and Susan. He used to compete alongside his brother in his younger days.
Toru Terasawa is a former Japanese long-distance runner who on February 17, 1963 set a world record in the marathon with a time of 2:15:16 at the Beppu Marathon. Terasawa placed second in the marathon at the 1964 Japanese Olympic trials and 15th at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Terasawa is also a two-time champion of the Fukuoka Marathon; he set a Japanese national record during his 1962 victory (2:16:18.4) and improved on it when he won in 1964 (2:14:48.2). At Fukuoka in 1966, he finished fifth (2:15:51.2) after colliding with Jim Hogan, the 1966 European marathon champion, and falling to the pavement just before the half way mark.
Carsten Eich is a retired (East) German runner who specialized in the 10,000 metres and the marathons. He is an eight-time German champion and national record holder in the half marathon.
Jeanette M. Allred-Powless is a Guamanian former long-distance runner. She competed in the women's marathon at the 1992 Summer Olympics. She also competed for Guam in seven World Athletics Championships and won three golds and a silver at the South Pacific Games. She was educated at American River College, California State University, Northridge, the University of North Florida and California State University, Sacramento. After retiring from competition she took up coaching, acting as coach of the men's and women's running programs at Sierra College before joining her alma mater American River College in 2000 as head coach for women's track and field and cross country, where she led her track and field team to the third state title in ARC's history in 2007. She is the mother of professional cyclists Shayna Powless and Neilson Powless.
