Jerlin Anika Jayaratchagan also simply known as either J. Jerlin Anika or Jerlin Anika (born 2004) is an Indian deaf badminton player. [1]
She hails from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. She was diagnosed with hearing disability at the age of two. She studied at Avvai Corporation GHSS in Madurai and college at Lady Doak in Madurai. [2] .She pursued her interest in badminton at the age of eight. She took part in the Federation of India School Games 2016 while still being enrolled as a class IX student in St.Joseph's Girls Higher Secondary School and bagged silver medal in U-13 category. [3] According to her coach, T. Saravanan, she had a disadvantage of reaction time to the shuttle.[ citation needed ]
She became a national champion at the 2017 badminton championship in Hyderabad and her performance helped her to qualify for the Summer Deaflympics in the same year. She represented India at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics at the age of 13 and contested in the women's singles and women's doubles events. [4] At the age of 13, she was also the youngest participant at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics. She along with Prithvi Sekhar subsequently became the first set of athletes from Tamil Nadu to compete at Deaflympics. [5]
She competed at the 2018 Asia Pacific Deaf Badminton Championships which was held in Malaysia where she secured two silver medals and a bronze. [6] At the 5th Asia Pacific Deaf Badminton Championships, she clinched the bronze medal in the senior category in the women's doubles following it up with silver medal achievements in singles and doubles events in U-21 girls category. She won gold medal at the age of 15 in the girls' singles final during the 2019 World Deaf Youth Badminton Championships which was held in Taipei. She defeated Germany's Finja Rosendahl in straight sets to become a youth deaf world champion. In addition to the gold medal feat, she also secured silver medals in girls' doubles and mixed doubles events during the second edition of the World Deaf Youth Badminton Championships in 2019. [9]
She represented India at the 2021 Summer Deaflympics (held in May 2022) which marked her second appearance at the Deaflympics. [10] [11] She clinched three gold medals at the 2021 Summer Deaflympics in the mixed doubles, team event and women's singles events. [12] [13] [14] She selected Arjuna award in 2022. Arjuna Award is the second-highest sporting honour of India.

Nele Alder-Baerens has represented Germany at the Deaflympics in 1997, 2001, 2005, 2017 and in 2022 has clinched 5 medals in her Deaflympic career including 2 gold medals. She is also the defending champion in the women's marathon at the Deaflympics. Nele also currently holds few deaf world records in the women's Athletics.

Prithvi Sekhar is an Indian male deaf tennis player. He represented India at the Deaflympics in 2013 and 2017. He won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics partnering with Jafreen Shaik. He is also currently employed in the Integrated Coach Factory in Chennai.
Jafreen Shaik Jafreen is a deaf Indian tennis player. She represented India at the Deaflympics in 2013 and 2017. She claimed a bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics partnering with Prithvi Sekhar.
Manasi Girishchandra Joshi is an Indian para-badminton player. She is a former world champion in the women's singles SL3 category. She started her professional sporting journey in 2015 and in 2020, she was ranked world no. 2 in women's singles in the SL3 category. On 8th of March 2022 she was ranked world no. 1 in women's singles in the SL3 category.
Diksha Dagar is an Indian professional golfer who is also hearing-impaired. She became the leading amateur ladies golfer in India from November 2015. Diksha Dagar represented India at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics where golf was included in the Summer Deaflympics for the very first time and competed in the women's individual golf event securing a silver medal. Diksha also qualified to represent India at the 2018 Asian Games. She is also considered one of the emerging amateur golfers in India. In 2019, she became only the second Indian female golfer after Aditi Ashok to win the Ladies European Tour and became the youngest Indian woman to do so at the age of 18.

India is currently competing in the 2021 Summer Deaflympics which is held in Caxias do Sul, Brazil. India sent a delegation consisting of 65 participants in 11 sporting disciplines such as shooting, badminton, athletics, golf, judo, karate, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, wrestling for the event, which is also the largest ever delegation sent by India in a single Summer Deaflympic event.
Boon Wei Ying is a Malaysian deaf badminton player. She won one gold, silver and bronze medal in 2021 Summer Deaflympics in badminton and silver medal in 2017 Summer Deaflympics. She also first Malaysian Deaflympic get a gold medal after 21-year Deaflympics gold drought.
