Jermaine Allan Mann, is a previously abducted child from Canada, who was discovered with his father living under falsified documents in the United States in October 2018. [1] Mann's case is believed by law enforcement to be the longest case in North America, where the abducted child is reunited with a parent where they're both in safe conditions. [2]
Mann was allegedly kidnapped by his father, Allan Mann, on 24 June 1987, when he was 21 months old during a scheduled visit in Toronto, Canada. His parents had separated the year prior. Lyneth Mann-Lewis reported her son's disappearance to the Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC), when he and his father failed to return. [3]
While in the United States, Mann and his father lived under counterfeit birth certificates and other documents. [4] Through the documents, Allan Mann lived under the name "Hailee DeSouza", and claimed that he and his son were both born in Texas, and had relocated to Vernon, Connecticut. [5]
Allan Mann was discovered in Section 8 housing in Vernon, and it was revealed that Allan Mann had told Jermaine that his mother had died after giving birth to him. [6]
The case was investigated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the US Marshals Service, Department of Homeland Security, the Social Security Administration, the Toronto Police, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. [5] The CEO of MCSC, Amanda Pick, and Mann-Lewis both credited the work of retired police officer Ted Davis, who investigated for the MCSC.
In August 2018, US Marshals interviewed several of Allan Mann's relatives and friends, who indicated that he may have settled in Connecticut. Later in the month a forensic specialist from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children analyzed and compared an old picture of Allan Mann and the 2015 drivers license from DeSouza, and found they were likely the same person. There is an active warrant for Allan Mann by the Canadian authorities, but extradition proceedings from the United States would not begin immediately. In the United States, Allan Mann is detained on charges which include making false statements in transactions with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. [2]
Mann-Lewis gave a press statement after news broke of his discovery; "I am the proof that after 31 long years of suffering, one should never give up. Be patient, be strong, and believe that all things are possible and anything can transpire." [7] Shortly after the discovery, Mann-Lewis and Mann reunited[ citation needed ].

Elizabeth Ann Smart was kidnapped at age fourteen on June 5, 2002, by Brian David Mitchell from her home in the Federal Heights neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. She was held captive by Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee, on the outskirts of Salt Lake City, and later, in San Diego County, California. Her captivity lasted approximately nine months before she was discovered in Sandy, Utah, approximately 18 miles (29 km) from her home.

Adam John Walsh was an American boy who was abducted from a Sears department store at the Hollywood Mall in Hollywood, Florida, on July 27, 1981. His severed head was found two weeks later in a drainage canal alongside Highway 60 / Yeehaw Junction in rural Indian River County, Florida. His death garnered national interest and was made into the 1983 television film Adam, seen by 38 million people in its original airing. His father, John Walsh, became an advocate for victims of violent crimes and was the host of the television program America's Most Wanted and currently, In Pursuit with John Walsh. Convicted serial killer Ottis Toole confessed to Adam's murder but was never convicted for this specific crime due to loss of evidence and a recanted confession. Toole died in prison of liver failure on September 15, 1996. No new evidence has come to light since then, and police announced on December 16, 2008, that the Walsh case was closed, as they were satisfied that Toole was the killer.

The Ariel Castro kidnappings took place between 2002 and 2004, when Ariel Castro kidnapped Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Georgina "Gina" DeJesus and held them captive in his home in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The three girls were imprisoned until May 6, 2013, when Berry escaped with her six-year-old daughter, to whom she had given birth while imprisoned, and contacted the police. Police rescued Knight and DeJesus and arrested Castro within hours.
Forced disappearances in Bangladesh denotes to the incidents of persons missing where it is alleged that Government of Bangladesh has direct or indirect sponsorship and involvement with these incidents. According to a Dhaka-based human rights group Odhikar, at least 402 people have become victim of forced disappearance from 2009 to 2017 under the current Awami League administration. These incidents along with extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh has been criticized by The United Nations and human rights groups including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), a special paramilitary unit in Bangladesh, is alleged to be behind most of these disappearances even though RAB claimed these allegations to be false. The current Awami League government denies involvement in these forced disappearances even when victims later surface in custody.

Their kidnapping made both national and international headlines. Gary O'Brien is wanted by Interpol for their abduction.
