Jernej Vrtovec (born 24 May 1985) [1] is a Slovenian politician. Currently a member of the National Assembly representing New Slovenia,he served as Minister of Infrastructure in the 14th Government of Slovenia from March 2020 to June 2022. [2] [3]
Slovenia,officially the Republic of Slovenia,is a country in southern Central Europe. Spread over 20,271 km2,it is bordered by Italy to the west,Austria to the north,Hungary to the northeast,Croatia to the southeast,and the Adriatic Sea to the southwest. Slovenia is mostly mountainous and forested,covers 20,271 square kilometres (7,827 sq mi),and has a population of 2.1 million. Slovenes constitute over 80% of the country's population. Slovene,a South Slavic language,is the official language. Slovenia has a predominantly temperate continental climate,with the exception of the Slovene Littoral and the Julian Alps. A sub-mediterranean climate reaches to the northern extensions of the Dinaric Alps that traverse the country in a northwest–southeast direction. The Julian Alps in the northwest have an alpine climate. Toward the northeastern Pannonian Basin,a continental climate is more pronounced. Ljubljana,the capital and largest city of Slovenia,is geographically situated near the centre of the country.
The economy of Slovenia is a developed economy,and the country enjoys a high level of prosperity and stability as well as above-average GDP per capita by purchasing power parity at 83% of the EU28 average in 2015. The nominal GDP in 2023 is 68.108 billion USD,nominal GDP per capita (GDP/pc) in 2023 is USD 32,214. The highest GDP/pc is in central Slovenia,where the capital city Ljubljana is located. It is part of the Western Slovenia statistical region,which has a higher GDP/pc than eastern Slovenia.
Since Slovenia declared independence in 1991,its Governments have underscored their commitment in improving cooperation with neighbouring countries and to actively contribute to international efforts aimed at bringing stability to Southeast Europe. Resource limitations have nevertheless been a problem hindering the efficiency of the Slovenian diplomacy. In the 1990s,foreign relations,especially with Italy,Austria and Croatia,triggered internal political controversies. In the last eight years,however,a wide consensus has been reached among the vast majority of Slovenian political parties to jointly work in the improvement of the country's diplomatic infrastructure and to avoid politicizing the foreign relations by turning them into an issue of internal political debates.
The Slovenian Democratic Party,formerly the Social Democratic Party of Slovenia,is a conservative parliamentary party;it is also one of the largest parties in Slovenia,with approximately 30,000 reported members in 2013.
New Slovenia –Christian Democrats is a Christian-democratic and conservative political party in Slovenia. Since 2018,it is led by Matej Tonin. The party was formed on 4 August 2000 following a split in the unified Slovenian People's Party and Slovene Christian Democrats (SLS+SKD). NSi is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and in the European Parliament its MEP Ljudmila Novak sits with the EPP Group.
The Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia is a political party in Slovenia led by Ljubo Jasnič. The party claims broadly liberal values with a strong focus on the interests of the retired and the elderly. Despite being part of virtually every governmental coalition of Slovenia since it started appearing on voting ballots,the party only secured 0.66% of all votes at the most recent Slovenian parliamentary election in 2022 and thus failed to secure any seats in the National Assembly.
Ivan Janša,baptized and best known as Janez Janša,is a Slovenian politician and strongman who served three times as a prime minister of Slovenia,a position he had held from 2004 to 2008,from 2012 to 2013,and from 2020 to 2022. Since 1993,Janša has led the Slovenian Democratic Party,which has emerged as the pre-eminent Slovenian conservative party. Janša lost his fourth bid for prime minister in April 2022,his party defeated by the Freedom Movement party.
Emonika,also named the Emonika City Centre or Ljubljana Emonika Passenger Centre,is a construction project including a new bus and railway station at Liberation Front Square,near Ljubljana railway station,as well as in the nearby area in the Center District of Ljubljana,the capital of Slovenia. Russia–Slovenia relations are foreign relations between Russia and Slovenia. Both countries established diplomatic relations on May 25,1992. Russia has an embassy in Ljubljana. Slovenia has an embassy in Moscow and two honorary consulates. Until 2022,Russia had five honorary consuls in Slovenia,but Slovenia withdrew its consent to the appointments due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Both countries are full members of the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

The Party of Alenka Bratušek was a political party in Slovenia. The party was founded on 31 May 2014 as the Alliance of Alenka Bratušek. The party was formed by Alenka Bratušek,who resigned as Prime Minister of Slovenia on 5 May 2014,and other former members of Positive Slovenia.
Slovenia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "On My Way" written and performed by Omar Naber,who had previously represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 where he failed to qualify to the final with the song "Stop". Slovenian broadcaster Radiotelevizija Slovenija organised the national selection EMA 2017 in order to select the Slovenian entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv,Ukraine. 16 entries competed in the national final which consisted of three shows:two semi-finals and a final. Entries were selected to advance from each semi-final based on a public televote and a jury panel. Eight entries qualified to compete in the final where "On My Way" performed by Omar Naber was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from six regional juries and a public televote.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Slovenia was a part of the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The first slovenian citizen to be infected was resulted positive on 3rd March 2020,the infection was contracted during an internal flight in Italy. The first case in Slovenia was confirmed a day later;it was an imported case transmitted by a tourist traveling from Morocco via Italy. Italy was the center of the SARS-CoV-2 in Europe at the time.
