Jerry Friesen is a former award-winning linebacker in the Canadian Football League and is the special teams coordinator for the Saskatchewan Huskies.

University career

A graduate of University of Saskatchewan, Friesen was 3-time all-star with the Huskies. In 1994, he was inducted into the Huskie Wall of Fame. [1]

Professional career

Friesen was drafted in the second round, 14th overall, by the Montreal Alouettes in the 1978 CFL Draft and played in 48 regular season games with them. [2] He then joined his hometown Saskatchewan Roughriders for five years, winning the prestigious Tom Pate Memorial Award for outstanding community service in 1985. [3]

Coaching career

Friesen took up coaching after his playing days. He started with alma mater as an assistant coach for the Saskatchewan Huskies for 10 seasons, winning the Vanier Cup in 1990. After a year as linebacker coach with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, he was the defensive coordinator with the Calgary Dinos. He next spent 10 years as head coach of the Alberta Golden Bears, being named CIS coach of the year in 2004, before he resigned to return to the Roughriders. He spent the 2011 season with the Roughriders, but was not retained following a disappointing season.

On March 11, 2013, Friesen was announced as the defensive coordinator for the UBC Thunderbirds. [4] He spent two years with the Thunderbirds but was not retained following a head coaching change in 2015.

On May 2, 2017, it was announced that Friesen had re-joined his alma mater and was named the special teams coordinator for the Saskatchewan Huskies. [5]

Awards

In 2008, Friesen was enshrined in the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame. [6]

Ken Miller (gridiron football) American sports coach

Ken Miller is currently an offensive consultant for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. He previously served in the league as head coach and vice president of football operations for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He served as the Roughriders head coach between 2008 and 2010, leading the team to appearances in the Grey Cup in 2009 and 2010. Miller returned as head coach of the Roughriders on August 19, 2011, after the firing of Greg Marshall after a 1–7 start to the 2011 CFL season. Miller was the club's offensive coordinator under head coach Kent Austin when they captured the 95th Grey Cup in 2007. He had previously served on the coaching staffs of the Toronto Argonauts, University of Redlands, Dickinson State, and Yucaipa High School.

James Franklin Eddy was an American football coach in the National Football League (NFL) and Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at New Mexico State University.

Jacques Chapdelaine

Jacques Chapdelaine is a Canadian football coach and former professional slotback in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He most recently served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. He has also served as the offensive coordinator for four other CFL teams, the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes (2016-17), and the head coach for two Canadian university football teams. He has won three Grey Cup championships as an assistant coach and one Vanier Cup as the head coach of the Laval Rouge et Or. He played collegiately for the Simon Fraser Clan as a wide receiver and played between 1983 and 1989 for four different CFL teams.

Kitwana Jones

Kitwana Shaloyd Jones is a former Canadian football defensive end. He was signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders as an undrafted free agent in 2005. Jones has also played professionally for the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes. He played college football at the University of North Carolina and Hampton University.

Paul Woldu is a former professional Canadian football cornerback. He was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the fifth round of the 2008 CFL Draft where he spent four years with the team. He played CIS football for the Saskatchewan Huskies football team.

Shomari Williams Canadian football coach and recruiter

Shomari Gyasi Williams is the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for the UBC Thunderbirds of U Sports football. He is a former professional Canadian football defensive end who played in parts of six seasons in the Canadian Football League. He was drafted first overall by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2010 CFL Draft after Saskatchewan traded up to be in a position to draft him. Williams played one season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before being traded back to Saskatchewan. He played college football for the Queen's Golden Gaels and the Houston Cougars.

Dave Easley is a former award-winning defensive back who played in the Canadian Football League from 1969 to 1976.

Chris Jones (Canadian football coach) American gridiron football coach, born 1967

Chris Jones is the head coach and general manager of the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was previously the head coach and general manager of the Saskatchewan Roughriders for three seasons, after serving as the head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos for two seasons. Jones previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Montreal Alouettes, Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts before becoming a head coach. Jones won four Grey Cup rings with four teams between 2002 and 2015.

Kyle Norris is a former Canadian football linebacker. He was drafted 24th overall by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2013 CFL Draft. Norris played CIS football with the Saint Mary's Huskies.

2016 Saskatchewan Roughriders season

The 2016 Saskatchewan Roughriders season was the 59th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 107th season overall. The Roughriders finished in 5th place in the West Division with a 5–13 record and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.

The 2017 CFL season was the 64th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it was the 60th season of the Canadian Football League. The regular season began on June 22 and concluded on November 4. The playoffs commenced on November 12 and concluded on November 26 with the Toronto Argonauts defeating the Calgary Stampeders to win the 105th Grey Cup.

2018 Saskatchewan Roughriders season

The 2018 Saskatchewan Roughriders season was the 61st season for the team in the Canadian Football League. It was the club's 109th year overall, and its 103rd season of play. The Roughriders improved upon their 10–8 record from 2017 with a 12–6 record and qualified for the playoffs for the second consecutive year. The team hosted the first ever playoff game at the new Mosaic Stadium, but lost to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the West Semi-Final. This was the third season under head coach and general manager Chris Jones.

Noel Thorpe is a professional Canadian football coach who was formerly the defensive coordinator for the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He is a Grey Cup, Vanier Cup, and IFAF World Cup champion. He played college football for the St. Cloud State Huskies.

Walter Lee Howard is a gridiron football coach and former linebacker. He was most recently the defensive line coach for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 1987 NFL Draft.

Tim Tibesar is an American football coach who formerly was the defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach at Oregon State University.
