The Edmonton Elks are a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club competes in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member of the league's West Division and plays their home games at Commonwealth Stadium. The Elks were founded in 1949 as the Edmonton Eskimos and have won the Grey Cup championship fourteen times, most recently in 2015 and the most of any CFL club based in Western Canada. The team has a rivalry with the Calgary Stampeders. The team discontinued using the Eskimos name in 2020, with the new name Elks formally announced on June 1, 2021.

He won a Grey Cup for the Eskimos and played in another two for them. Bass was voted one of the CFL's top 50 players (#44) by Canadian sports network TSN.
Larry Highbaugh was an American defensive back who played with the BC Lions from 1971 to 1972 and the Edmonton Eskimos from 1972 to 1983 of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Rod Connop is a Canadian former professional football player for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He spent his entire 16-year career with the Eskimos as an offensive lineman. Connop played CIS football at Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. He was named CFL All-Star six times and won the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award in the 1989 CFL season. Connop played 210 consecutive games with the Eskimos from 1983 until his retirement following the 1997 season. As of 2011, he continued to be the all-time Eskimo leader in games played (274). He is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, where he was inducted in 2005. His son Rory Connop played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL as a defensive lineman.
Bill Stevenson was a Canadian Football League (CFL) player with the Edmonton Eskimos. After playing college football at Drake University, he was drafted by the NFL's Miami Dolphins and played in the World Football League (WFL) with the Memphis Southmen for two seasons, followed by a 14-year CFL career with the Eskimos, the first three as a defensive lineman and the remainder as an offensive lineman. He was named CFL All-Star 2 times and was a part of a CFL record seven Grey Cup championship teams with the Eskimos.
Roger Nelson was an American and Canadian football offensive tackle and guard. He played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Edmonton Eskimos from 1954 to 1967 and was a part of two Grey Cup winning teams for the Eskimos. Nelson played college football at the University of Oklahoma and was drafted in the fourteenth round of the 1954 NFL draft.
Blake Dermott is a former professional Canadian football offensive lineman who played fourteen seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Edmonton Eskimos, and was named the team's Top Lineman in 1988 and 1990 and CFL All-Star in 1989 and 1994. Dermott played in five Grey Cups and was a part of two Grey Cup championship teams in 1987 and 1993. Blake currently sits in 5th place all–time for most games played for the Eskimos, and was the only player in Eskimo history to start a game in every position on the Offensive Line.
Marco Cyncar is a former Canadian Football League (CFL) wide receiver who played eleven seasons for the Edmonton Eskimos. He was a member of four Grey Cup Championship teams in Edmonton.
Leo Blanchard is a former professional Canadian football offensive lineman who played between 1979 and 1991 in the Canadian Football League (CFL), mainly for the Edmonton Eskimos, but also for the Calgary Stampeders. Blanchard grew up in Edmonton, and played football in high school at Queen Elizabeth Composite High School. Blanchard played Canadian university football for the Alberta Golden Bears between 1977-78. He played for the Eskimos from 1979-87. He was named CFL All-Star every year from 1982 to 1986 and was a part of five Grey Cup championship teams with the Eskimos. He later worked as offensive line coach for the junior Victoria Rebels.
Terry Ray is a Belgian-American former gridiron football safety and linebacker who played in both the National Football League (NFL) and Canadian Football League (CFL) between 1992 and 2004.
The 1988 Edmonton Eskimos season was the 31st season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 40th overall. The Eskimos finished the season in first place with an 11–7 record. They appeared in the West Final where they lost to the BC Lions. The West Final was the first time the Eskimos lost a playoff game at Commonwealth Stadium.
Eric Thomas Upton was a Canadian professional football player who was an offensive lineman for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was named a CFL Western All-Star in 1979 and was a part of five Grey Cup championship teams with the Eskimos. Upton played CIAU football at the University of Ottawa, where he was a member of the 1975 Vanier Cup championship team. He died on May 23, 2024, at the age of 71.
