Jerry Lee Atwood (born September 13, 1975) is an American fashion designer specializing in western wear and chainstitch embroidery. Atwood was featured in the February issue of Vogue and the United States of Fashion: A New Atlas of American Style from Rizzoli Books in 2021. [1] [2]
Atwood’s influences include 20th-century western tailors Nathan Turk, Rodeo Ben, and Nudie Cohn, as well as couture dress designer Charles James and fashion designer Alexander McQueen. These inspirations shape his unique approach to fashion design, balancing tradition and modernity. [3]
Union Western Clothing is featured in the documentary, Chain Stitched: The Work of Jerry Lee Atwood from Grass Fed Cinema in 2018. [4] The Highwomen wear Union Western originals on their album cover, along with singer Joshua Hedley, Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett, and other country stars including Nikki Lane. [5] Atwood has a long list of celebrity clients including Lil Nas X, DJ and music producer Diplo, Post Malone, actor David Harbour and NFL player Von Miller. [6] [7] [8]
In 2019, Atwood designed the suit worn by Lil Nas X in the "Old Town Road" video with Billy Ray Cyrus. [9] [10]

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee has featured Atwood's western wear in their exhibits including a chain stitch jacket worn by Lil Nas X in the "Old Town Road" music video, stage wear for country music performer Charley Crockett and a jacket designed for singer Amanda Shires of The Highwomen. He also became famous for his outrageous customized automobiles.

Nudie Mobiles are vehicles customized by the designer Nudie Cohn. He was known for designing rhinestone-covered outfits worn by celebrities such as Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. Between 1950 and 1975, he customized 18 automobiles with added animal horns, silver dollars, chromed horseshoes, and firearm embellishments. The fanciness or garishness increased with each successive car.

Shoulder pads are a type of fabric-covered padding used in men's and women's clothing to give the wearer the illusion of having broader and less sloping shoulders. In the beginning, shoulder pads were shaped as a semicircle or small triangle and were stuffed with wool, cotton, or sawdust. They were positioned at the top of the sleeve to extend the shoulder line. A good example of this is their use in "leg o' mutton" sleeves or the smaller puffed sleeves which are based on styles from the 1890s. In men's styles, shoulder pads are often used in suits, jackets, and overcoats, usually sewn at the top of the shoulder and fastened between the lining and the outer fabric layer. In women's clothing, their inclusion depends on the fashion taste of the day. Although from a non-fashion point of view they are generally for people with narrow or sloping shoulders, there are also quite a few cases in which shoulder pads will be necessary for a suit or blazer in order to compensate for certain fabrics' natural properties, most notably suede blazers, due to the weight of the material. There are also periods when pads intended to exaggerate the width of the shoulders are favored. As such, they were popular additions to clothing during the 1930s and 1940s; the 1980s ; and the late 2000s to early 2010s.

American rapper Lil Nas X wore a couture fuchsia Versace suit with a pink harness to the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards on January 26, 2020, during which he accepted his awards for Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Old Town Road (Remix)." In 2022, Billboard suggested that Lil Nas X was one of the earliest celebrity adopters of the monochromatic pink Barbiecore trend. Some critics have suggested that this outfit was the beginning of Lil Nas X's style pivot to an embrace of queer fashion.
