She was one of 461 athletes to receive a Congressional Gold Medal instead. She set the world's best year performance in the women's long jump in 1981. The 1955 NASCAR Grand National season began on November 7, 1954, and ended on October 30, 1955. Even though the season was resolved in the course of two different years, all NASCAR personnel were allowed to have their traditional two-month silly season that traditionally comes between mid-November and mid-February. Tim Flock won the 1955 championship by a margin of 1508 over top of Buck Baker. This season was unusual because of its 11-month season. As the ninth season of the series now known as the Cup Series, most of the drivers involved were still the first-generation race car drivers. They did not have any ties to the stock car racing world through their parents or grandparents although some of them served in World War II prior to their NASCAR careers. However, the generation that would gain notoriety and fame through nepotism would emerge about ten years later. The average horsepower of a stock car competing the 1955 NASCAR Grand National season would be 230 horsepower.
The 1961 NASCAR Grand National season was the 13th season of professional stock car racing in the United States, and contested over 52 events from November 6, 1960, to October 29, 1961. Ned Jarrett captured the championship which was run on 20 dirt tracks, 31 paved tracks, and one road course. Seventeen events were considered short tracks, and 14 events were held at super speedways. Joe Weatherly won the season opening's event at Charlotte, and Jarrett went on to capture the championship with 27,272 points; 830 more than second-place finisher Rex White. Emanuel Zervakis finished third in points, with Joe Weatherly fourth and Fireball Roberts fifth.
Peru sent a delegation to compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from 12 to 28 February 2010. This marked Peru's debut at the Winter Olympics. The Peruvian delegation consisted of three athletes: two alpine skiers—Manfred Oettl Reyes and Ornella Oettl Reyes—and the cross-country skier Roberto Carcelen. Earlier in the year, he was NCAA Champion, though he was runner up to Curt Stone at the Olympic Trials. He was inducted into the Texas Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame, Class of 2016. Thompson died in August 2021 at the age of 98.
Pam Greene is an American sprinter. She competed in the women's 200 metres at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Greene qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team but was unable to compete due to the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott. Greene ran on the 4x100 relay at the 1973 World University Games, and was AIAW Champion in 1973 in the 200 metres. She also received one of 461 Congressional Gold Medals created especially for the spurned athletes.
Jason Welborn is an English professional boxer who challenged once for the unified WBA (Super), IBF and IBO light-middleweight titles in 2018. At national level, he held the British middleweight title in 2018, and challenged for the British welterweight and light middleweight titles in 2013 and 2014 respectively, and the Commonwealth light-middleweight and middleweight titles in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
