Jessica Lourey (born 1970) [1] is an American author of crime, young adult, and magic realism novels, children's books, and nonfiction books.

Biography

Lourey was born in 1970, in Tacoma, Washington and presently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. [1] She has two children. [1] Her husband, Jay, died of suicide shortly after their wedding, which prompted her creative writing career. [2]

In August 2016, she presented at the TEDxRapidCity event, where she "explores how everyone, not just authors, can use the power of fiction to transform." [3]

Lourey has received a Master of Arts and Master of Science degree. [1] As of 2021, she taught at St. Cloud Technical and Community College for 11 years in the college's Liberal Arts division. [4] [5] There, she received The Loft’s Excellence in Teaching fellowship. She retired from teaching in August 2021 to pursue writing full-time. [6]

In addition to writing novels, Lourey is a blogger for Psychology Today [7] and hosts writing workshops.

The Anthony Awards are literary awards for mystery writers presented at the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention since 1986. The awards are named for Anthony Boucher (1911–1968), one of the founders of the Mystery Writers of America. Among the most prestigious awards in the world of mystery writers, the Anthony Awards have helped boost the careers of many recipients.

The Anisfield-Wolf Book Award is an American literary award dedicated to honoring written works that make important contributions to the understanding of racism and the appreciation of the rich diversity of human culture. Established in 1935 by Cleveland poet and philanthropist Edith Anisfield Wolf and originally administered by the Saturday Review, the awards have been administered by the Cleveland Foundation since 1963.

Yiyun Li is a Chinese-born writer and professor in the United States. The award is given in four categories—best novel, best first novel, best nonfiction, and best short story. The Sue Feder Historical Mystery has been given in conjunction with the Macavity Awards.

The Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best First Novel was established in 1946.

The Edgar Allan Poe Awards, named after Edgar Allan Poe, are presented every year by the Mystery Writers of America. They remain the most prestigious awards in the entire mystery genre. The award for Best Young Adult Mystery was established in 1989 and recognizes works written for ages twelve to eighteen, and grades eight through twelve. Prior to the establishment of this award, the Mystery Writers of America awarded a special Edgar to Katherine Paterson for The Master Puppeteer in 1977.
