Jesse Krakow (born April 12, 1977) is a bassist, musician, producer and composer based in New York City. He has toured with Shudder To Think, playing bass on their 2009 live album "Live From Home." He collaborated with Tatsuya Yoshida and Ron Anderson for live performances as RonRuins, [1] was previously in Anderson's band PAK, and is featured on their Motel (album) CD. [2] Currently he works with Dot Wiggin of The Shaggs in The Dot Wiggin Band, instrumental-metal quartet Haessliche Luftmasken, country-soul band The Tall Pines, prog-rock octet Doctor Nerve, 9-piece big band Fast 'n Bulbous: The Captain Beefheart Project featuring Beefheart alumni Gary Lucas, avant-afro beat collective Stick Against Stone Orchestra, lo-fi recording project We Are The Musk Brigade, all-ages experimental group The Exploding Note Ensemble, 80's hair metal tribute HAIR AMERICA, and MANDONNA, an all-male tribute to Madonna.
From June 2012 - Dec 2013 he was the host of "Minor Music", a radio show on WFMU that spotlighted musicians 18 and under. He is also on the teaching staff at Bootsy Collins' online music school Funk University. In May 2013 The Brooklyn Philharmonic premiered his piece for string quartet, female vocals, drumset, and fuzz bass called "Bad Doggie".
He was a longtime member of NYC-avant rock band Time of Orchids, [3] who released 6 albums, collaborated with pianist Marilyn Crispell, Kate Pierson (The B-52's), Julee Cruise ("Twin Peaks"), trumpeter Tim Byrnes, and was signed to a number significant labels (one of which was John Zorn's Tzadik label). [4] He has two solo albums out of Nebraska's Public Eyesore/Eh? record label - 2004's Oceans in the Sun + 2008's World Without Nachos. [5] He latest album A Loaf Of Fun will be released in 2014[ needs update ] on the Ohio-based label Factotum Tapes.

Outsider music is music created by self-taught or naïve musicians. The term is usually applied to musicians who have little or no traditional musical experience, who exhibit childlike qualities in their music, or who suffer from intellectual disabilities or mental illnesses. The term was popularized in the 1990s by journalist and WFMU DJ Irwin Chusid.
The Shaggs were an American rock band formed in Fremont, New Hampshire, in 1965. The band was composed of the sisters Dorothy "Dot" Wiggin, Betty Wiggin, Helen Wiggin (drums) and, later, Rachel Wiggin. Their music has been described as both among the worst of all time and a work of "accidental genius".
Jeff Mangum is an American singer, songwriter, and musician who gained prominence as the founder, songwriter, vocalist and guitarist of Neutral Milk Hotel, as well for his co-founding of The Elephant 6 Recording Company. Mangum is characterized for his complex, lyrically dense songwriting, exemplified on the critically lauded album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, as well as for his public image as a recluse associated with his extended periods of musical inactivity and minimal press interaction. Shudder to Think was an American alternative rock band. Formed in 1986, they released three albums on the Washington, D.C.-based label Dischord Records, and two on Epic Records. Their early work was largely influenced by post-hardcore although they gradually drew upon a wide range of stylistic influences, including pop music and glam metal.
An all-female band is a musical group in popular music that is exclusively composed of female musicians. Old Skull was an American punk rock novelty band that formed in Madison, Wisconsin in the late 1980s. The band was started by ten-year-old J.P. (Jean-Paul) Toulon and his nine-year-old brother, Jamie Toulon, with encouragement from their father Vern Toulon, a longtime member of the Madison punk scene who had spent time in New York City, where he was a guitarist for the industrial band Missing Foundation.
Team Love is an independent record label based in New Paltz, New York, founded by Conor Oberst and Nate Krenkel in 2003. It has released albums by several other recording artists. Team Love also released the documentary film by Roy Germano, The Other Side of Immigration. A distinguishing marketing tactic of Team Love has been complete albums for download in unprotected mp3 format at no cost on their website in addition to traditional record and CD sales. This practice evolved into what is now known as The Team Love Library.

Irwin Chusid is a journalist, music historian, radio personality, record producer, and self-described "landmark preservationist". His stated mission has been to "find things on the scrapheap of history that I know don't belong there and salvage them." Those "things" have included such previously overlooked but now-celebrated icons as composer/bandleader/electronic music pioneer Raymond Scott, Space Age Pop avatar Esquivel, illustrator/fine artist Jim Flora, various outsider musicians, and The Langley Schools Music Project. Chusid calls himself "a connoisseur of marginalia," while admitting he's "a terrible barometer of popular taste."
Rising Sons was an American, Los Angeles, California-based blues rock and folk music band, which was founded in 1965. Their initial career was short-lived, but the group found retrospective fame for launching the careers of singer Taj Mahal and guitarist Ry Cooder.
Keith Graham Tippetts, known professionally as Keith Tippett, was a British jazz pianist and composer. According to AllMusic, Tippett's career "..spanned jazz-rock, progressive rock, improvised and contemporary music, as well as modern jazz for more than half-a-century". He held " an unparalleled place in British contemporary music," and was known for "his unique approach to improvisation". Tippett appeared and recorded in many settings, including a duet with Stan Tracey, duets with his wife Julie Tippetts, solo performances, and as a bandleader.
Lo-fi is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate choice. The standards of sound quality (fidelity) and music production have evolved throughout the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. Lo-fi began to be recognized as a style of popular music in the 1990s, when it became alternately referred to as DIY music.
