Jessica Woodard (born February 4, 1995) is an American track and field athlete who competes in shot put.
Raised in the Marlton section of Evesham Township, New Jersey, Woodard attended Cherokee High School in New Jersey. [1] [2] She attended the University of Oklahoma and was an NCAA Outdoor First Team All-American in 2018, as well as Big 12 champion both indoor and outdoor in 2018. [3]
Woodard finished third at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships throwing 19.40m. [2] At the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon Woodard was one of three home athletes who reached the final of the women's shot put with a throw of 19.08. [4] Woodard finished in eighth place at the World Championships behind compatriot gold medalist Chase Ealey and ahead of Minnesotan Maggie Ewen in ninth. [5]
She finished eighth in the shot put at the 2024 Diamond League event 2024 Meeting International Mohammed VI d'Athlétisme in Rabat. [6]
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the shot—as far as possible. For men, the sport has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival (1896), and women's competition began in 1948.
Dame Valerie Kasanita Adams is a retired New Zealand shot putter. She is a four-time World champion, four-time World Indoor champion, two-time Olympic, three-time Commonwealth Games champion and twice IAAF Continental Cup winner. She has a personal best throw of 21.24 metres (69.7 ft) outdoors and 20.98 metres (68.8 ft) indoors. These marks are Oceanian, Commonwealth and New Zealand national records. Ryan Crouser is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and discus.
