Jete Nahi Dibo is an Indian Bengali docu-feature directed by Prabir Roy under the banner Royz Media and Entertainment. [1]

Synopsis

The “Docu-Feature” is narrated from Abir (played by Sudip Sarkar) and Ushahi's (played by Swastika Dutta) perspective, who portrays in the film to be very close to Uttam Kumar throughout 70's era until his death. They spent several hours with Uttam Kumar and others associated with the actor's family and friends. The actor's philosophy of life, his acting and struggle is showcased in this docu-feature. [2]

Controversy

The film became controversial during its proposed release. Family members of the actor opposed its release and moved to court. The film received an injunction and was barred from its scheduled release of 22 November 2019. [3] [4] [5]

It was featured retrospectively at the 45th IFFI in the "homage section" of Indian panorama.

The film stars Sharmila Tagore, Uttam Kumar, Utpal Dutt and Asit Sen. Both the versions were hits. The film was based on Shaktipada Rajguru novel Naya Basat which he written based on Sundarban. The film music composed by the popular Bengali singer-composer Shyamal Mitra.

Through his career he earned commercial as well as critical success, and he remains as an Bengal's cultural icon. For his ability to play roles of various types, Kumar is regarded as one of the greatest and most versatile actors in the history of Indian Cinema and is called as Mahanayak. Kumar was one of the most popular and successful actors in Bengali Cinema history. He debuted as Arun Kumar Chatterjee as a child artist in the 1948 film Drishtidaan directed by Nitin Bose. The film was unsuccessful. Next year he appeared as a leading hero as Uttam Chatterjee in the film Kamona 1949 which was flop again. He changed name again as Arup Kumar. In 1951 film Sahajatri he kept his name permanently as Uttam Kumar. But he gave back to back seven flop films and was stated as flop master general.

Anand Ashram is a 1977 Indian drama film written and directed by Shakti Samanta, based on a story by film director and novelist, Sailajananda Mukhopadhyay. It starred Ashok Kumar, Uttam Kumar and Sharmila Tagore in lead roles. The film starring Uttam Kumar in lead with Asit Baran, Sumita Sanyal and others are played supporting role. This film was released on 28 April 1960 under the banner of Agradoot Chitra. Music direction of the film was done by Hemanta Mukherjee. The film is remember as one of the best film of Uttam's career. His performance as a servant was huge acclaimed. The film was an hit at the box office.
