Jewish Rock Radio is a non-profit Internet radio station founded in 2010. It is based in Chesterfield, Missouri. [1]

Development

Jewish Rock Radio is a non-profit [2] Internet radio station founded by Jewish rock musician Rick Recht, who is the station's executive director. [3] Launched in 2010, [4] it was one of the first exclusively Jewish rock online radio stations in the United States, and runs programming 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. [5] It was conceived as a global communications channel for Jews across the world. [5] Recht was inspired to create Jewish Rock Radio after seeing how Christian rock radio stations operated. [2] The station is a non-profit under the umbrella of the 501c3 charity "Judaism Alive", [6] an organization established in 2009 "to strengthen Jewish identity and connection for youth through their love of music, musical instruments, and online interaction" according to The Jewish Week . [7]

Mobile app

In 2011 the station launched its mobile app, [3] which is provided free of charge for both Apple and Android devices. [2] More than 10,000 apps were downloaded in the first few months, providing over 500,000 listening minutes. [8] In 2012 the app was named one of the top five Jewish music apps available on the Internet by The Jerusalem Post . [9] The radio station became embedded in the websites of several top Jewish institutions. [8]

Live concerts

Jewish Rock Radio DJs include Seth Williams out of St. Louis, [10] and has a focus on new up-and-coming artists. Many who work at the station also provide collaborative live shows at major music concerts. [2] In February 2013 the station organized and hosted the first Jewish Rock Radio Rockfest National Music Festival at the St. Louis Jewish Community Center. [11]

Recognition

In 2011 the station was awarded a Slingshot Award, given as a part of the "annual compilation of the 50 most inspiring and innovative organizations, projects, and programs in the North American Jewish community". This includes serving as an advertising vehicle to Jewish-oriented businesses to directly communicate with their target constituencies. [5]

Pandora is a subscription-based music streaming service owned by the broadcasting corporation Sirius XM that is presently based in Oakland, California inside of the United States. The service carries a focus on recommendations based on the "Music Genome Project", which is a means of classifying individual songs by musical traits such as genres and shared instrumentation. The service originally launched in the consumer market as an internet radio service that would generate personalized channels based on these traits as well as specific tracks liked by the user; this service is available in an advertising-supported tier and additionally a subscription-based version. In 2017, the service launched Pandora Premium, which is an on-demand version of the service more in line with contemporary competitors.

Richard Samuel "Rick" Recht is an American rock musician who was one of the early pioneers of contemporary Jewish rock music in the early 2000s, performing for Jewish teenage and young adult audiences.

Stingray Music is a Canada-based international multi-platform audio service that broadcasts continuous streaming music and other forms of audio on multiple channel feeds. The service is owned by Stingray Digital.

Sirius XM Holdings Inc. is an American broadcasting corporation headquartered in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, that provides satellite radio and online radio services operating in the United States. The company was formed by the 2008 merger of Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio, merging them into SiriusXM Radio. The company also has a 70% equity interest in Sirius XM Canada, an affiliate company that provides Sirius and XM service in Canada. On May 21, 2013, Sirius XM Holdings, Inc. was incorporated, and in January 2020, SiriusXM reorganized their corporate structure, which made Sirius XM Radio Inc. a direct, wholly owned subsidiary of Sirius XM Holdings, Inc.

Rockfest was an outdoor, hard rock and metal music festival held annually by Kansas City radio station KQRC-FM 98.9 The Rock since 1992. Over the years, the festival was held at various venues around the city, including Liberty Memorial Park, Kansas Speedway, and Sandstone Amphitheater. As of 2010, it was considered North America's largest one-day music festival. Major bands such as Godsmack, Staind, Seether, Stone Temple Pilots, Korn, Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie, and Disturbed have all headlined Rockfest. FIT Radio is an American Internet radio provider based in Atlanta and a mobile app that plays continuous music mixes of various genres engineered by DJs. The streaming media content is delivered to users' computers and smartphones. The app is geared towards people who want to listen to high-energy music while they work out. Musical genres include Top 40, hip hop, indie rock, dubstep and house. Through the interface, users can see what artists and songs make up each mix, and they can also bypass songs and mixes entirely.

Audacy, previously known as Radio.com, is a free broadcast and Internet radio platform developed by the namesake company Audacy, Inc.. The Audacy platform functions as a music recommender system and is the national umbrella brand for the company's radio network aggregating its over 235 local radio stations across the United States. In addition, the service includes thousands of podcasts created for the platform, hosted elsewhere or station programming on demand. It was initially developed by CBS Radio and was acquired by the former Entercom as part of the company's takeover of CBS Radio. The service's main competitors are rival station groups iHeartMedia's iHeartRadio and TuneIn. Audacy is available online via mobile devices and devices such as Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV.

myTuner Radio, or simply myTuner, is an Internet radio app directory/platform owned by AppGeneration – Software Technologies, Lda, a development company based in Porto, Portugal founded by Eduardo Carqueja in October 2010. myTuner Radio has over 50,000 radio stations and one million podcasts from all around the world. On June 7, 2017, AppGeneration announced that its service had over 30 million users and a database with radio stations of 200 countries. my Turner Radio platform is available for the web at mytuner-radio.com, for a suite of mobile apps: iOS, Google Play, Samsung, Huawei, Amazon, Windows Phone; for desktop devices: Web, Windows, and Mac, wearables: Apple Watch and Android Wearables, for connected devices like Apple TV, Samsung TVs, LG TVs, TV sets and set-top boxes with Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku TV and Chromecast, connected cars: Apple Carplay, Android Auto, Bosch mySPIN, Jaguar & Land Rover InControl Apps, and also on home appliances and smart speakers like Alexa and Sonos.
