Jill Millstone is a professor of chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. She works on metal-ligand chemistry in nanoparticle synthesis. She is the American Chemical Society Kavli Foundation Emerging Leader in Chemistry Lecturer for 2018.
Millstone earned her bachelor's in chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University in 2003. [1] [2] She earned a PhD in materials chemistry at Northwestern University, working with Chad Mirkin. [1] She was awarded the Northwestern University graduate school presidential fellowship. [3]
Millstone worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Jean Fréchet and Paul Alivisatos at University of California, Berkeley. [1] She was appointed to the University of Pittsburgh in 2011, earning a National Science Foundation career award. [1] [4]
In 2013 she developed nanoscale alloys that emitted so much near-infrared light they could be used in to visualise cells. [5] Millstone uses small organic molecules to hold together metallic nanoparticles. [5] Millstone's lab concentrates on the chemical synthesis of multifunctional nanoparticles and techniques to study their structural-property relationships. [6] They work on nanoparticle colloidal arrays and their mechanochemistry. [3] They use nuclear magnetic resonance, photoemission spectroscopy and electron microscopy. [7] She won the 2015 Unilever Award for Outstanding Young Investigator in Colloid & Surfactant Science. [8]

Colloidal gold is a sol or colloidal suspension of nanoparticles of gold in a fluid, usually water. The colloid is coloured usually either wine red or blue-purple . Due to their optical, electronic, and molecular-recognition properties, gold nanoparticles are the subject of substantial research, with many potential or promised applications in a wide variety of areas, including electron microscopy, electronics, nanotechnology, materials science, and biomedicine.

He was ranked fifth among the world's top 100 chemists for the period 2000–2010 in the list released by Thomson Reuters.
Chad Alexander Mirkin is an American chemist. He is the George B. Rathmann professor of chemistry, professor of medicine, professor of materials science and engineering, professor of biomedical engineering, and professor of chemical and biological engineering, and director of the International Institute for Nanotechnology and Center for Nanofabrication and Molecular Self-Assembly at Northwestern University.
Silver nanoparticles are nanoparticles of silver of between 1 nm and 100 nm in size. While frequently described as being 'silver' some are composed of a large percentage of silver oxide due to their large ratio of surface to bulk silver atoms. Numerous shapes of nanoparticles can be constructed depending on the application at hand. Commonly used silver nanoparticles are spherical, but diamond, octagonal, and thin sheets are also common.

Paula Therese Hammond is a David H. Koch Professor in Engineering and the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She was the first woman and person of color appointed as head of the Chemical Engineering department. Her laboratory designs polymers and nanoparticles for drug delivery and energy-related applications including batteries and fuel cells.
Cheon Jinwoo is the H.G. Underwood Professor at Yonsei University and the Director of the Center for Nanomedicine, Institute for Basic Science (IBS). As a leading chemist in inorganic materials chemistry and nanomedicine Cheon and his group research chemical principles for the preparation of complex inorganic materials. He has been a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher both in the field of chemistry in 2014, 2015, 2016 and cross-field in 2018. He is a fellow of the American Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry, and Korean Academy of Science and Technology, a senior editor of Accounts of Chemical Research and an editorial advisory board member of Journal of Materials Chemistry, Nano Letters and Materials Horizons.

Donna M. Huryn is an American medicinal and organic chemist. She received her B.A. (chemistry) from Cornell University, and Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. She is on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh’s school of pharmacy, holds an adjunct appointment in the department of chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, is the principal investigator of the University of Pittsburgh Chemical Diversity Center, and was a visiting fellow in the summer of 2017 at the University of Bologna. She is a fellow of the American Chemical Society, recipient of the ACS Philadelphia Local Section Award, has held a number of elected positions within the American Chemical Society at both the local and national levels, and is 2015 Chair of the Division of Organic Chemistry. Huryn also formed, along with a number of other scientists, the Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry Conferences in 2019. The goal was to empower and bring the research and career of all marginalized individuals in chemistry-related fields to the forefront of the scientific community. Huryn noticed how there was not enough women pursuing and maintaining a career in organic chemistry, and thus founded this organization. The Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry Conferences allowed for women leaders to present their scientific findings and hear the stories of how eminent women in the field of organic chemistry overcame the challenges they faced being female. She is associate editor of ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters. She in also an editor of the journal Organic Reactions and co-authored the textbook Medicinal Chemistry and the article "Medicinal Chemistry: Where Are All the Women?" which appeared in the ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters Journal. Huryn’s research focuses on the design and synthesis of small molecules probes and drugs to treat cancer, neurodegenerative and infectious diseases.

Susan M. Kauzlarich is an American chemist and is presently a distinguished professor of chemistry at the University of California, Davis. At UC Davis, Kauzlarich leads a research group focused on the synthesis and characterization of Zintl phases and nanoclusters with applications in the fields of thermoelectric materials, magnetic resonance imaging, energy storage, opto-electronics, and drug delivery. Kauzlarich has published over 250 peer-reviewed publications and has been awarded several patents. In 2009, Kauzlarich received the annual Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, which is administered by the National Science Foundation to acknowledge faculty members who raise the membership of minorities, women and disabled students in the science and engineering fields. In January 2022 she became Deputy Editor for the scientific journal, Science Advances.

Her interests consider cycloaddition reactions that can realise molecules and natural products for organic photovoltaics and targeted covalent inhibitors. She was elected a Fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in 2010, a Fellow of the AAAS in 2021, and awarded the ACS National Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences in 2021.
