The Saskatchewan Party is a centre-right to right-wing political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Since 2007, it has been the province's governing party; both the party and the province are currently led by Premier Scott Moe. The party was established in 1997 by a coalition of former provincial Progressive Conservative and Liberal party members and supporters who sought to remove the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) from power.

After 16 years in Parliament, Belanger resigned from the legislature on August 15, 2021, to run in the 2021 Canadian federal election, as a federal Liberal in the riding of Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River. He was defeated.
An election for the leadership of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party was held on June 26, 2022 in Regina, Saskatchewan as a result of the resignation of Ryan Meili. 7,294 party members were eligible to vote, although only 4,741 cast their ballot. Carla Beck became the party's first elected female leader, winning the leadership vote with 3,244 votes cast – around 68 percent – while her opponent, Kaitlyn Harvey, received around 32 percent of votes with 1,492 cast in her name.
