Jim Willem Vanderzwaan (born May 1, 1950) is a Dutch-American television meteorologist who worked in Salinas, California. [2] He holds the National Weather Association's seal of approval. [3] His ability at weather forecasting has earned him awards from both the Associated Press and the Radio-Television News Directors Association. [2]

History

Vanderzwaan was born in Aruba; he moved to the United States at 5 years of age and became a U.S. citizen in 1972. [1] [4] His career in broadcasting began in 1974 in Reno, Nevada. Pursuing an airman certificate in 1978 sparked his interest in meteorology and his career turned to broadcast meteorology two years later. [5] Before permanently settling in his residence in the Salinas Valley in 1983 he worked at stations in Boise, Idaho and Medford, Oregon. [2]

Personal life

With his strong interest in aviation, Jim has been a frequent announcer at two of central California's airshows. [2] Both the Santa Cruz County airshow as well as the larger California International Airshow in Salinas have had Jim perform as crowd entertainer and educator. He's appeared at the airshow in Salinas since 1983 as announcer and has performed as director of flight operations as well. [6]

KSBW, virtual and VHF digital channel 8, is a dual NBC/ABC-affiliated television station licensed to Salinas, California, United States and serving the Monterey Bay area. The station is owned by the Hearst Television subsidiary of Hearst Communications. KSBW's studios are located on John Street in downtown Salinas, and its transmitter is located on Fremont Peak in the Gabilan Mountains. The call letters KSBW stand for "Salad Bowl of the World," which is the nickname of the city of Salinas.

Elliot Abrams, a meteorologist, is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Abrams has been an employee of AccuWeather since 1967 and is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with both a bachelor's and a master's degree in meteorology, where he was also a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. He is a charter member of the Chi Epsilon Pi.

John Michael Hammond is a meteorologist and an English weather forecaster for the BBC. For a long time he could be seen presenting weather forecasts on the BBC News channel, BBC Red Button and BBC World News. He was the main weather presenter on BBC News at One and also on the BBC News at Ten, Countryfile and BBC News at Six. At the weekend he also presents the weather on BBC Radio 5 Live. Fremont Peak (California)

Fremont Peak is a summit in the Gabilan Range, one of the mountain ranges paralleling California's central coast. The peak affords clear views of the Salinas Valley, Monterey Bay, the southern part of the Santa Clara Valley, and surrounding mountain ranges. It is located on Rocky Ridge, 11 miles (18 km) northeast of Salinas, California.

André Bernier (meteorologist) American meteorologist

André M. Bernier is an American meteorologist, serving as the Cleveland-based WJW-TV's weekday evening meteorologist. He won two Emmy awards for his weathercasts and has been at the station since February 1988, when Cleveland's very first full-length local morning newscast began. After nearly twenty years on weekday mornings, Bernier moved to the weekday prime-time on May 28, 2007.
