Broward County is a county in the southeastern part of Florida,located in the Miami metropolitan area. It is Florida's second-most populous county after Miami-Dade County and the 17th-most populous in the United States,with 1,944,375 residents as of the 2020 census. Its county seat and largest city is Fort Lauderdale,which had a population of 182,760 as of 2020.
The 2006 Florida gubernatorial election took place on November 7,2006. Incumbent Republican Governor Jeb Bush was term-limited,and could not run for reelection to a third consecutive term. The election was won by then-Republican Charlie Crist,the state's Attorney General. The election was notable in that for the first time,the state elected a Republican governor in three consecutive elections.

In the 2020 redistricting cycle,it was drawn as a successor to the previous 21st district and includes Palm Beach,West Palm Beach,Boynton Beach and Delray Beach,as well as unincorporated Palm Beach County.
