James Christopher "Jimmy" Ryan is an American singer. He is the original vocalist for the heavy metal bands Haste the Day, Trenches, and Upheaval.
Jimmy Ryan began in the hardcore punk scene when he was 13, identifying with the straight edge and vegan culture. [4] Although raised Catholic, he regarded organized religion as an authority figure to rebel against. [4] Eventually, Ryan formed Upheaval with Brian Allen (bass), Jeremy King (drums), Nathan Stambro (guitars) and Ben Parrish (guitars) (also in Demiricous) in 1997. The band recorded their debut EP, Downfall of the Ascendancy of Man in 1997. In 1999, Ryan left the band along with Allen, and were replaced by Drew and Bryan Grimes. The band had been signed with Eulogy Recordings until Ryan quit the band and started on the path of becoming a Christian. [4]
In 2002, Ryan joined Christian metal outfit, Haste the Day, being 8 years older than all the members except for the drummer, Devin Chaulk. [4] At the time, the band members were in college at Moody Bible College and IUPUI, apart from Ryan. [4] When the band began touring, the members left college and Ryan called off an engagement. [4] The band recorded an EP, That They May Know You , in 2002. While in conversation with Solid State Records, the band began recording with Barry Poynter for their debut album, Burning Bridges . [4] The band would go to record their sophomore album, When Everything Falls , with Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine) in Vancouver, Canada. [4] Ryan also appeared on Zao's The Lesser Lights of Heaven DVD, which released in 2005.
In 2005, Ryan quit the band to focus on his relationship, being replaced by ex-New Day Awakening vocalist Stephen Keech. [5] Years later, Ryan claims that his biggest regret in life was that he left the band, however, feels that it was the best decision for the band. [4] Following his exit from the band, he briefly worked for Starbucks before leaving to work for Tooth & Nail Records, working as an assistant for the A&R representative Chad Johnson. [4] He worked for the company, working behind the scenes with Underoath, Norma Jean, and Emery before moving back to Indianapolis. While in Indianapolis, he found Cry of the Afflicted and multiple other acts. [4] A year after leaving Haste the Day, Ryan formed Trenches with Phil Hook, Eli Larch Chastain, Bill Scott, and Joel David Lauver. [6] In 2008, the band released their debut album The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole through Solid State Records. The band stated on their Facebook page they were working on a new EP that was to be titled, Reckoner, but Lauver's personal page stated that Trenches had disbanded. After a brief amount of time back home, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee to work with Johnson once again. [4] He quit working with Tooth & Nail to work as a youth pastor at a church in Nashville for a brief time before touring with Jeremy Camp, a close friend since he was 18, as an assistant. [4]
In 2012, the band stated they had reunited and were working on the Reckoner album. In 2014, he later rejoined Haste the Day, being featured on the band's 2015 release, Coward . In 2016, the band re-entered into a hiatus, while Trenches continued working on their next album. In 2022, Trenches released Reckoner, through their independent label, Noise Order. In 2023, Haste the Day and Trenches performed at Furnace Fest, where Ryan made guest appearances with Haste the Day. Following the festival, Ryan shared that he would no longer make appearances with Haste the Day and that Trenches was on an indefinite hiatus. [7]
Jimmy Ryan was married in the early 2005, following his departure from Haste the Day. During his time working Jeremy Camp, the two ended up getting a divorce. [4] Ryan eventually remarried and had a son. [4] Ryan is avid cyclist. [4]
Zao is an American metalcore band founded in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and later relocated to Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Founded in March 1993, Zao has hosted several musicians and endured numerous roster changes to the point where no original members remain. Former drummer Jesse Smith, vocalist Dan Weyandt, and guitarists Scott Mellinger and Russ Cogdell are seen by some fans as the "core" of Zao, with the current line up being the longest running in the band's history.
Solid State Records is a metalcore record label, an imprint of Tooth & Nail Records. Unlike Tooth & Nail, Solid State signs hardcore punk and heavy metal bands. Like Tooth & Nail, Solid State is primarily a Christian label. However, it signed several bands with Christian members which don't label themselves as Christian bands, including Stretch Arm Strong, Gwen Stacy, He Is Legend, the Famine, Training for Utopia, and the Agony Scene.
Haste the Day is an American metalcore band formed in Carmel, Indiana in 2001 and signed to Solid State Records. Their name is derived from a lyric in the hymn "It Is Well with My Soul" by Horatio Spafford. The band released an EP titled That They May Know You, in 2002, followed by five studio albums: Burning Bridges (2004), When Everything Falls (2005), Pressure the Hinges (2007), Dreamer (2008), and Attack of the Wolf King (2010). The group disbanded in March 2011 but reformed in 2014 and released Coward in 2015.
Matthew Kiichi Heafy is a Japanese-American musician, best known as the guitarist and lead vocalist for heavy metal band Trivium. He was also the lead vocalist for the band Capharnaum, along with Trivium's former producer Jason Suecof. In 2017, Heafy was voted sixth on the Ultimate Guitar list "Top 25 Greatest Modern Frontmen".
When Everything Falls is Haste the Day's second full-length album. It was released on June 28, 2005, through Solid State Records. This was the last record to feature the band's original vocalist Jimmy Ryan until their 2015 release Coward.
William Ryan Key is an American musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Yellowcard. He is the owner/operator of a recording studio in Jacksonville, Florida, called The Lone Tree Recordings. He is currently writing music under his full name, William Ryan Key, as a solo acoustic act and electronic act. He is also one half of JEDHA, an electronic duo consisting of himself and lead guitarist of Yellowcard, Ryan Mendez. He has recently toured as guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist for New Found Glory. In late 2018, he played as a supporting act on Mayday Parade's Sunnyland tour along with This Wild Life. During 2021, he live-streamed his songwriting process on Twitch full-time.
Ryan Curtis Clark is an American musician who also has performed under the stage name Maven. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the Christian metal band Demon Hunter, which he co-founded with his brother, guitarist Don Clark. He was also the frontman for Christian metalcore band Training for Utopia along with being one of the guitarists for Focal Point. He is featured on Zao's The Lesser Lights of Heaven DVD and Mark Salomon's Podcast, Never Was.
Distance Only Makes the Heart Grow Fonder is the third release by American metalcore band Poison the Well, following their split 12" vinyl with Promise No Tomorrow and a demo tape sold during the band's summer 1998 tour. The demo tape featured a selection of songs from this recording session, which is in turn a re-recording of the songs previously released on their split with Promise No Tomorrow. It was first released via Good Life Recordings in September 1998.
Pressure the Hinges is the third album from Christian metalcore band Haste the Day. This is the band's first album with Stephen Keech as lead vocalist. The album was released on March 20, 2007 through Solid State Records.
Zachary Wayne Farro is an American musician, best known as the drummer for the rock band Paramore. He is the younger brother of Josh Farro, who was Paramore's former lead guitarist and backing vocalist. After he and his brother exited Paramore in 2010, Josh formed a band named Novel American, which Zac was also a part of. Farro is currently the sole member of the band HalfNoise. Farro rejoined Paramore in 2016.

The Ascendicate, originally known as The 7 Method is a Christian metal band from High Point, North Carolina. The band formed in 1999, but went on hiatus in 2012. The band put out tracks of one of their albums, which fell into the hands of Jimmy Ryan (Haste the Day, Trenches) and Ryan Clark (Demon Hunter, Training for Utopia), and the band signed to Solid State Records. They have shared stages with Staple, Extol, Alien Ant Farm, Disciple, Project 86, and Pillar. Guitarist Ryan Helm joined Demon Hunter, and then formed Damien Deadson.
A Plea for Purging is a Christian metalcore band based out of Nashville, Tennessee. During their time active, they released four full-length albums on Facedown Records and two EPs. Their final release, The Life & Death of A Plea for Purging, reached No. 24 on the US Billboard Rock Albums chart and No. 11 on the Heatseekers chart. Guitarist Blake Martin played on Project 86's record, Wait for the Siren and was a touring member for Haste the Day. Drummer Aaron Eckermann was a touring musician for Corpus Christi. Vocalist Andy Atkins was featured on The Crimson Armada's song "Composed of Stone", from their album Conviction.
Phinehas is an American metalcore band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2001. The group consists of vocalist Sean McCulloch, guitarist Daniel Gailey, bassist Bryce Kelley and drummer Isaiah Perez. They are currently signed to Solid State Records and have released five studio albums. Their most recent studio album, The Fire Itself, was released on August 27, 2021.
Thegodmachine is the debut studio album by American metalcore band Phinehas. The band was signed to the independent Christian metal label, Red Cord Records, shortly after the album's production was finished. The album was physically released on July 19, 2011, and was later digitally released on September 30, 2011. It was produced by the band themselves and Jeff Darcy.
Coward is the sixth studio album from Haste the Day. Solid State Records released the album on May 18, 2015. The album was released following the band's successful funding campaign via the crowdfunding website IndieGoGo, to which fans contributed more than twice the band's original goal. Coward is unique in that it features contributions from every member throughout the band's career, and is the first studio album to feature original vocalist Jimmy Ryan since the band's 2005 release When Everything Falls.

Stephen Albert Joseph Keech is an American musician. He spent his early years as the vocalist and songwriter for the metalcore band Haste the Day. He was also the vocalist for New Day Awakening and bassist for As Cities Burn.
Dark Flag is the fourth studio album by American metalcore band Phinehas. The album was released on November 17, 2017, through Solid State Records, the band's first release through the label. It was produced by Matt Goldman and Daniel Gailey, the band's guitarist.
Giuseppe Antonio Capolupo is an American drummer who typically performs metalcore. He has been in bands such as Renfield, Demise of Eros, Haste the Day and Once Nothing, as well as formed his own band, Gypsy and His Band of Ghosts. Capolupo joined The Devil Wears Prada as a fill-in drummer, with the eventual plan of becoming an official member.
