Joachim Victor Birkeland Kjelsaas von Kwetzinsky-Stetzenkow (born 8 April 1978), known as Joachim Kwetzinsky, is a Norwegian pianist.

Background

He is a son of the author Oddbjørn Birkeland and the pianist Berit Kjelsaas Kwetzinsky, and a stepson of the scenographer Truls Kwetzinsky (born Wassily Michail Fjodor Grossow von Palm von Kwetzinsky-Stetzenkow), who is himself a son of the Russian-born music critic Wassily von Kwetzinsky and a grandson of the Russian general Mikhail Kvetsinsky, who both came to Norway in 1920 as refugees from the Russian Revolution. Education and work

Joachim Kwetzinsky studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and has been a student of Einar Steen-Nøkleberg, Liv Glaser and Jiri Hlinka. He has given concerts in over 20 countries and has published several albums. He is known for his collaboration with David Arthur Skinner, Johannes Martens and Marcus Paus, and published the album Marcus Paus i 2013. [2] [3] [4]

He won the Concours Grieg Prize in 2002 and the Robert Levin Prize in 2009. [5]

Ole Paus Norwegian recording artist; musician, songwriter

Ole Paus is a Norwegian singer, songwriter, poet and author, who is widely regarded as the foremost troubadour of the contemporary Norwegian ballad tradition. During the 1970s Paus was known for his biting social commentary, especially in his ironic and sometimes libellous "musical newspapers" in the form of broadside ballads in a series of albums titled "The Paus Post". He has later become known for a softer and more lyrical style, and has written some of Norway's best known songs, such as "Innerst i sjelen" and "Engler i sneen". He has often collaborated with Ketil Bjørnstad, notably on the "modern suite" Leve Patagonia; he has later collaborated with Kirkelig Kulturverksted on several projects, and with his son, the classical composer Marcus Paus, notably on the children's opera The Witches, Requiem and several later works. One of his songs, "Mitt lille land", gained wide popularity after the 2011 Norway attacks and was described as "the new national anthem". He has been described as the Norwegian counterpart of Bob Dylan and as the "voice of the nation." Paus was discovered by artists Alf Cranner and Alf Prøysen, and was mentored by André Bjerke, Jens Bjørneboe and Henny Moan. Paus is noted for his consistent use of Norwegian and has been eager for other Norwegian musicians to switch from English to Norwegian.

Olav Anton Thommessen Norwegian contemporary composer (born 1946)

Olav Anton Thommessen is a Norwegian contemporary composer who has been one of the foremost modernist composers in Norway since the 1970s. His main compositions include Et glassperlespill and Gjennom Prisme. He is a former professor of composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music and has also been a influential in music education and music organisations in Norway. Thommessen has played a significant role in aesthetic discourse in Norway and is known for his modernist and atonal stance. He has engaged in a critical dialogue with his former student Marcus Paus that includes the opera monologue The Teacher Who Was Not To Be; a 2015 debate between the two was described as "the biggest public debate about art music" in Norway since the 1970s.

Ensemble 96 is a Norwegian chamber choir located in Oslo. The choir works mainly with contemporary music and is partly funded by government grants. It has released several CDs, and given concerts and participated in national and international choral competitions. Ensemble 96 has just under 30 members.

Stein Mehren was a Norwegian poet, essayist and playwright. He made his literary debut as poet with Gjennom stillheten en natt (1960). He wrote more than fifty books, mainly poetry.

Mikhail Fyodorovich Kvetsinsky, also known as Michael (von) Kwetzinsky, was a Russian officer and a military administrator. He held notable command posts in the Russian Far East, during the Russo-Japanese War, during the First World War and during the Russian Civil War, when he was one of the leaders of the White Army of the North during the North Russia Intervention. Kvetsinsky became a Major-General in 1910 and a Lieutenant-General in 1915.

His work includes chamber music, choral works, solo works, concerts, orchestral works, operas, symphonies and church music, as well as works for theatre, film and television. Paus is regarded as "one of the most celebrated classical composers of Norway" and "the leading Norwegian composer of his generation."

Wassily von Kwetzinsky-Stetzenkow was a Russian-born Norwegian music critic and writer. He came to Norway in 1920 as a refugee from the Russian Revolution together with his father, General Mikhail Kvetsinsky.
