Joan Marie Sawicki (born September 18,1945) is a former Canadian politician. She served as a NDP Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1991 to 2001,representing Burnaby-Willingdon. [1] She served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 1992 to 1994,and as Minister of Environment,Lands and Parks from 1999 to 2000.
Sawicki was born in Burnaby,BC in 1945. She attended the University of Victoria earning a B.A. in Education in 1968. Sawicki was a secondary school teacher,a civil servant,and a land-use consultant prior to holding elected offices.
Sawicki was elected to the Burnaby City Council in 1987 and served one term. She chaired the environment and waste management committee and sat as a municipal representative on both the Greater Vancouver Regional District waste management committee and the Metropolitan Board of Health.
Sawicki was the NDP candidate in the riding of Burnaby-Willingdon in the 1986 provincial election but was defeated by Elwood Veitch,a minister in the Social Credit government. She was elected in the same riding in 1991,and re-elected in 1996.
Sawicki was elected Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in March 1992,serving for two years. She was forced to resign as Speaker by Premier Mike Harcourt in 1994. [2] She then served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Municipal Affairs from April 1994 to May 1996,and to the Minister of Environment,Lands and Parks from June 1996 to January 1998. She resigned from her position over issues concerning a proposed land development project that was to take place on protected land under the Agricultural Land Reserve at Six Mile Ranch near Kamloops.
In July 1999,Glen Clark named Sawicki to cabinet as Minister of Environment,Lands,and Parks. She retained her portfolio under Premier Dan Miller and when Ujjal Dosanjh became premier. She announced in October 2000 that she would not seek re-election,and relinquished her portfolio on November 1,2000.

As a member of the official opposition in the 39th and 40th Parliaments he served in various critic and deputy roles at different times,such as on issues relating to mines,energy,finance and children and family development issues. He introduced one private member bill to amend the Oil and Gas Activities Act to prohibit the conversion of natural gas pipelines to transmit oil or diluted bitumen.
Kathy Corrigan is a Canadian politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in the 39th and 40th Parliament of British Columbia,from 2009 to 2017. As a member of the BC New Democratic Party,she was elected to represent the riding of Burnaby-Deer Lake in the 2009 provincial election and re-elected in the 2013 election. In both parliaments her NDP formed the official opposition and Corrigan acted as their critic on various issues,including 2010 Winter Olympics,women's issues,public safety,the Solicitor General and advanced education. During both the 2011 and the 2014 NDP leadership elections,Corrigan endorsed John Horgan. At the same time as she served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly,her husband Derek Corrigan served as mayor of Burnaby.

Frederick Justin Vulliamy was a chartered accountant and politician in British Columbia. He represented Burnaby-Willingdon in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1966 to 1968 as a New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He was born in Winnipeg and came to Vancouver,British Columbia with his family five years later. Vulliamy worked for the Alaska Pine Company for three years as an accountant before setting up his own practice. He was elected provincial president of the NDP in 1962. He was a director and later president of the Kitsilano Ratepayers' Association. Vulliamy was an unsuccessful candidate in the provincial ridings of Vancouver Burrard in 1960 and Vancouver Centre in 1963. In 1964 he moved to Burnaby and was elected to the Legislature in the 1966 provincial election. Vulliamy died in office two years later.
