Joanna Kachilika (born 8 June 1984) has been a Malawian netball player, team captain and coach of the Malawi national team. She plays in the positions of goal defense or wing defense. [1] [2] She has featured in two World Cup tournaments for Malawi in 2011 and in 2019. [3] She has also competed at the Commonwealth Games on three successive occasions in 2010, 2014 and in 2018 representing Malawi. [4]

In September 2019, she was included in the Malawian squad to lead the team for the 2019 African Netball Championships. [5]

She was one of only six people who had the Africa Level One Certificate in coaching and in January 2024 she was named as Malawi's National Team Coach. She took over following an eight month hiatus after the dismissal of Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa. Her assistant was to be Eleanor Mapulanga and Beatrice Mpinganjira was the trainer. She was chosen because of her commitment but also because there was no regular wage associated with the position because of funding shortfalls. [6] In Novemver 2024 she was replaced. This time the choice was to have co-coaches for the national team of Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa and Mary Waya. [7] Chawinga-Kaluwa had preciously been the Malawian coach and Waya had been the national coach for Namibia. [8]

Kachilika was not consulted and she was offered the position of under-21 coach. She refused this position and the NAM General Secrerary, Yamikana Kauma, said that they were looking to find someone to fill that vacancy. Meanwhile Kachilika had instructed her lawyers and they were trying to resolve the impasse. [7]

Mwai Kumwenda(Note 1) is a Malawi netball international player. She represented Malawi at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 and 2015 Netball World Cups. Kumwenda was the top goal scorer at three successive major tournaments – the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2015 Netball World Cup and the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Towera Vinkhumbo, also referred to as Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda or Towera Nyirenda, is a Malawi netball international and a Malawi women's football international. As a netball player she represented Malawi at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011, 2015 and 2019 Netball World Cups. Vinkhumbo was also a member of the Malawi team that finished third at the 2016 Fast5 Netball World Series. At club level, Vinkhumbo plays for Strathclyde Sirens in the Netball Superleague. In July 2019, the same month she played for Malawi in the 2019 Netball World Cup, she also represented Malawi at the 2019 COSAFA Women's Football Championship. She also played for Malawi in 2020 Summer Olympic football qualifiers.

Sindi Simtowe is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi in the positions of goal attack or goal shooter. She was in three consecutive World Cup tournaments for Malawi in 2011, 2015 and in 2019. She has also represented Malawi at the Commonwealth Games in 2010, 2014 and in 2018.

Thandie Galleta is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi in the positions of WA or C.

Caroline Mtukule is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi in the positions of goal defence or goal keeper. Jane Chimaliro is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi in the positions of goal attack or wing attack. She has featured in two World Cup tournaments for Malawi in 2015 and in 2019. She has also competed at the Commonwealth Games on two successive occasions in 2014 and 2018 representing Malawi.

The 2019 Africa Netball Cup was held in Cape Town from 18-23 October 2019. The tournament featured seven nations including hosts South Africa, defending champions Uganda along with Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Lesotho and Zimbabwe in 2 pool categories. Tanzania pulled out of the tournament due to financial issues, just a day before the tournament opener against Zimbabwe. The tournament was originally supposed to have its scheduled opening match between defending champions Uganda and Zimbabwe but was called off due to the last minute withdrawal by Tanzania. The authorities later revealed that the match between hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe to be the opening match of the tournament while the tournament was later modified with round robin format.

Loreen Ngwira also spelt as Laureen Ngwira is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi in the positions of GD and GK.

Takondwa Lwazi also spelt as Takwonda Lwazi is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi internationally and for Malawian local club Blue Eagles in the positions of C and WA. She is known as one of the finest netball centre players to have played for Malawi despite being only 160cm tall in height. She also serves as a Police Sergeant in the Malawi Police Service.

Martha Dambo is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi in the position of goal defense.
