Joe Itsebaga Acha (born 19 May 1958) is a Nigerian jurist who served as the Chief Judge of Edo State from 6 October 2021 to 19 May 2023. [1] He was appointed Acting Chief Judge on 17 May 2021,following the retirement of Justice Esther Edigin. [2] [1] He is the first person from Etsako East to hold the office. [3]
Acha was born in Okpekpe,in present-day Edo State,and was raised in a Catholic family. [1]
After completing his legal training,Acha served in the judiciary and later became a judge of the Edo State High Court. On 17 May 2021,he was appointed Acting Chief Judge following the retirement of Justice Esther Edigin,and on 6 October 2021 he was sworn in as substantive Chief Judge. He was the first person from Etsako East to hold the office. His tenure ended on 19 May 2023 upon his retirement from the Edo State judiciary. [1] [4] [5]
Acha is married to Christiana Acha,and they have children and grandchildren. He is a practising Catholic and a knight of the Order of St. Sylvester. [3]
