Joe DeSantis (born September 24, 1957) is the color commentator for the radio and TV broadcasts of Fairfield Stags men's basketball and is a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. [1] He was the second longest tenured head men's basketball coach at Quinnipiac University. [2]
DeSantis is best remembered as "Joey D" and his role in leading the 1978 Fairfield Stags men's basketball team to a program best 22–5 overall record, a victory over the then #14 nationally ranked Holy Cross Crusaders, and a berth in the National Invitational Tournament.
DeSantis was the fifth head coach of the Quinnipiac University men's basketball team. During his 11 seasons coaching the Bobcats, DeSantis guided the program through the transition from Division II to Division I while compiling an overall 118–188 record. In 2001–02, despite being a #7 seed, the Bobcats reached the Northeast Conference (NEC) championship game in its first-ever NEC postseason appearance. In 1999–2000, DeSantis was named NEC Coach of the Year by CBSSportsLine.com after guiding the Bobcats to an 18–10 mark, their first winning season since 1992–93 and their most wins since 1987–88. [3]
DeSantis also served as an assistant at his alma mater, Fairfield University, for seven years (1981–88) during which the Stags twice won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and qualified for the 1986 and 1987 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournaments.
DeSantis now runs the DeSantis Basketball Academy. [4] He has four children, his favorite being his third daughter Rachael.
DeSantis attended Fairfield University, where he was an AP All-American Honorable Mention in 1979, First Team All New England in 1978–79 and UPJ First Team All New England in 1979. DeSantis holds the Stags records for most field goals (727) and lifetime free throw percentage (.849, 462–544) and ranks second for career points (1,916) and career assists (622). DeSantis also set the Stags' single season free throw percentage record of .892 during the 1976–77 season which ranked fifth in the nation. [5]
DeSantis was elected to Fairfield University Alumni Sports Hall of Fame in 1985 [5] and the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004 for his playing contributions with the Stags.
The Washington Bullets selected DeSantis in the second round of the 1979 NBA draft. [6] DeSantis opted to play with Reyer Venezia Mestre in the Lega Basket Serie A in 1979–80, where he achieved all-star status. [5] He completed his professional career with the Maine Lumberjacks in the Continental Basketball Association.[ citation needed ]
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I. Its current 11 full members are located in four Northeastern states: Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Maryland. It was announced on October 23, 2023 that Sacred Heart University and Merrimack College will join the conference beginning in the 2024-25 season.

The Fairfield Stags men's soccer team represents Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut and competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) of NCAA Division I. The Stags play their home games at Lessing Field on the campus of Fairfield University. The team was ranked nationally in 1998 (24th), 2000 (15th), 2001 (12th), 2005 (24th), 2006 (15th) 2007 (17th) and 2011 (25th) and competed in the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament in 1999, 2006, 2008, and 2011. The 2006 team advanced to the second round in the NCAA Tournament after defeating in-state rival University of Connecticut, 2–1. The team also won the MAAC Championship Tournament in 1999, 2006, 2008, 2011, and 2017. Individually, ten players have earned Regional All-American honors including Mark Longwell '82 who was the first Stag to go on to play for the United States men's national soccer team and major professional soccer for the NASL Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Stags are currently coached by 1998 New England Coach of the Year Carl Rees.

Ikechukwu "Ike" Azotam is a Nigerian-American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Quinnipiac Bobcats for four seasons and earned all-conference recognition on three occasions. Azotam attended the John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics & Science and Marianapolis Preparatory School for high school and was named New England All-Star in his final two seasons. He played as a power forward.
Troy Bradford is a former American professional basketball player who played the point guard position. Bradford played college basketball for Fairfield University where he was named a preseason All-American in 1989 and 1st team Small American for three straight years between 1987 and 1989.

The Bobcats, led by first-year head coach Baker Dunleavy, played their home games at TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Connecticut as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 12–21 overall, 7–11 in MAAC play to finish in a tie for seventh place. As the No. 7 seed at the MAAC tournament, they defeated No. 10 seed Siena and upset No. 2 seed Canisius to advance to the semifinals where they lost to No. 6 seed Fairfield.

The 2018–19 Quinnipiac Bobcats men's basketball team represented Quinnipiac University in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They played their home games at People's United Center in Hamden, Connecticut as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and were led by 2nd-year head coach Baker Dunleavy. They finished the 2018–19 season 16–15 overall, 11–7 in MAAC play to finish in a four-way tie for second place. As the No. 3 seed in the 2019 MAAC tournament, they were defeated by No. 6 seed Monmouth 92–98 in the quarterfinals. On March 13, 2019, they accepted an invitation to the CIT tournament, where they played NJIT in the opening round on March 18, 2019, losing 81–92.

They finished the 2018–19 season 9–22 overall, 6–12 in MAAC play to finish in a three-way tie for ninth place. As the 10th seed in the 2019 MAAC tournament, they were defeated by No. 7 seed Manhattan in the first round 53–57.

Peter Richard Kiss is an American professional basketball player for BC Yambol, of the Bulgarian NBL. He played college basketball for the Bryant Bulldogs of the Northeast Conference (NEC). He previously played for the Quinnipiac Bobcats and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. In Kiss' redshirt senior season at Bryant University, he averaged 25.2 points per game leading the NCAA Division I in scoring.
