Emmerdale is a British television soap opera that is broadcast on ITV. The show is set in Emmerdale, a fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales. Created by Kevin Laffan, Emmerdale Farm was first broadcast on 16 October 1972. Interior scenes have been filmed at the Leeds Studios since its inception. Exterior scenes were first filmed in Arncliffe in Littondale, and the series may have taken its name from Amerdale, an ancient name of Littondale. Exterior scenes were later shot at Esholt, but are now shot at a purpose-built set on the Harewood estate.
Gillian Louise Kearney is an English actress best known for her early role as Debbie McGrath in Channel 4's Liverpool-based soap opera Brookside and the spin-off mini-series Damon and Debbie, and for playing Jessica Harrison in the long-running BBC television medical drama series Casualty, as well as Emma Barton in the ITV Yorkshire-based soap opera Emmerdale. He has also appeared as a contestant on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! (2016) and Strictly Come Dancing (2023).
Adam Barton is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, Emmerdale, portrayed by Adam Thomas. Thomas's character and role were announced alongside that of the Barton family in May 2009. Thomas called Adam "a family man." The character first appeared during the episode broadcast on 17 July 2009. Following a break from acting to participate in I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2016, Thomas decided to leave the show and, Adam's departure was announced on 22 June 2017, with the episode airing on 2 January 2018.
Ross Barton is a fictional character from the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, portrayed by Michael Parr. He made his first appearance in episode 6600 of the soap, broadcast on 9 July 2013. Ross first appears as the carjacker of Laurel Thomas, before being revealed to be the nephew of Moira Barton. The character is initially characterised as a bad boy and a "nasty piece of work". The softer side of Ross' personality is explored when he enters a secret relationship with police officer Donna Windsor, who has terminal cancer. When Donna dies, Ross bonds with her daughter April Windsor.

Leyla Harding is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, Emmerdale, played by Roxy Shahidi. She made her first on-screen appearance on 11 August 2008 and was introduced by series producer, Anita Turner. The character departed on 5 August 2011. Shahidi returned to Emmerdale for two episodes on 25 December 2013. She returned full-time in January 2014. On 5 January 2018, Shahadi took maternity leave from the show whilst pregnant with her first child. She returned on 3 October 2018.
Kate Oates is a British television producer, who was born in Nottingham and graduated from Warwick University. She began her career working as a researcher and editorial assistant for Germaine Greer, before becoming a script editor for the soap opera Crossroads. In 2003, she joined the radio soap The Archers as a producer, a position which Oates credits as the majority of her training. After resigning from this job, Oates began working on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale as a script editor, during which time she assisted with the soap's fortieth anniversary celebrations and worked on British Soap Award-winning storylines. She remained in the position until 2012 when she joined Coronation Street as the assistant producer.
Fast Eddie Joe Robinson, known professionally as Eddie-Joe Robinson, is an English actor. He began his career appearing in various stage productions after training at the National Youth Theatre, with starring roles in Jekyll and Hyde, Save + Quit, Coriolanus and Sorry, You're Not a Winner, amongst other productions. He has also made various appearances in television series, having played Jono Laverne on the ITV1 soap opera Emmerdale in 2019. Then in 2023, he was cast as Ryan Firth on the BBC medical drama series Casualty.
