Joseph Ellison McIntosh (born December 9, 1962) is an American former professional football running back who played one season with the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the 1985 NFL draft after playing college football at North Carolina State University.

Early life

Joseph Ellison McIntosh was born on December 9, 1962, in Lexington, North Carolina. [1] He attended Lexington Senior High School in Lexington. [1]

College career

McIntosh was a four-year letterman for the NC State Wolfpack from 1981 to 1984. [1] He rushed 222 times for 1,190 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman in 1981, earning ACC Rookie of the Year and first-team All-ACC honors. [2] [3] [4] He led the ACC in carries and rushing yards that season. [2] He also caught 11 passes for 97 yards and completed one of three passes for seven yards, one touchdown, and one interception. [2] McIntosh recorded 183 rushing attempts for 780 yards and six touchdowns, and 12 receptions for 91 yards in 1982. [2] In 1983, he totaled 217 carries for 1,081 yards and five touchdowns, and 21 catches for 215 yards. [2] He led the ACC in carries that season. [2] McIntosh rushed 107 times for 591 yards and four touchdowns as a senior in 1984. [2]

Professional carer

McIntosh was selected by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round, with the 118th overall pick, of the 1985 NFL draft. [5] He officially signed with the team on July 21. [6] He was released on August 27, 1985. [6]

McIntosh signed with the San Francisco 49ers on January 9, 1986, but was later released on July 23, 1986. [6]

On September 23, 1987, McIntosh signed with the Atlanta Falcons during the 1987 NFL players strike. [6] He played in two games for the Falcons, rushing five times for 11 yards, catching three passes for 15 yards and one touchdown, and returning three kicks for 108 yards. [5] He was released on October 19, 1987, after the strike ended. [6]

Charles Wade Wilson was an American professional football player who was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, and Oakland Raiders in a seventeen-year NFL career from 1981 to 1998. He was quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys from 2000 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2017, and also for the Chicago Bears from 2004 to 2006. He played college football for East Texas State Lions, where he was an NAIA All-American quarterback and led the Lions to the NAIA national semifinals during the 1980 season.

Having grown up the son of interracial parents, he was a 1981 graduate of Chalker High School in the tiny rural town of Southington, Ohio, where he led the Wildcats to their best season in school history his senior year at 9–1, winning Team MVP. He ran for 5,336 yards throughout his four years at the prep level, including over 2,000 yards and winning the OHSAA Class A Offensive Back of the Year his senior season. In a game against Ledgemont High School in 1980, Badanjek rushed for around 475 yards, en route to a 45–8 victory.
