Joe Nice (born c. 1976) is a dubstep DJ from Baltimore, Maryland. [1] Nice was the first person to put on dubstep nights in America and founded New York's irregular Dub War club night, [2] which has hosted performances by British dubstep artists such as Hatcha, [3] Youngsta, [3] Kode9, [4] Mala, [5] and Loefah. [5] He performs regularly in New York, London (including at scene pillar DMZ), [6] and elsewhere. [7] He first heard dubstep in 2002, [8] at the Baltimore venue Starscape, and began playing it that same year. [7] He has been praised for his charisma [9] and stage presence. [10] In 2005, music journalist Martin Clark also praised him for his access to new dubplates (in contrast to other American dubstep DJs) and willingness to play tracks by lesser-known producers. [6] In 2007, Nice was selected as one of URB magazine's "Next 100".[ citation needed ] In 2015, he founded the label known as Gourmet Beats, pushing content from the likes of Moonstones, Fill Spectre & DJG. Nice was born in Southampton, England [12] to Trinidadian parents, but moved to Baltimore at the age of two. [7]

Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London in the early 2000s. In the summer of 2008, Mala was chosen to headline the night portion of the Sónar Festival in Barcelona. In April 2011, Mala travelled to Cuba with Gilles Peterson who was returning to Havana to produce the second instalment in the Havana Cultura series. While Peterson recorded new material with local musicians, Mala began work on a new album Mala in Cuba, which was released in September 2012.

In a personal message to members of The Nest, Moore said that he uses the track "more as a DJ tool, but I wanted you guys to have it". The title track was created in Moore's hotel room in Mexico. "The Reason" was finished an hour before release in Moore's hotel room in Miami. "The Reason" has received significant attention and airplay in Australia, mostly on youth radio station Triple J.

Riddim is a subgenre of dubstep known for its heavy use of repetitive and minimalist sub-bass and triplet percussion arrangements. It shares the same name as the Jamaican genre that influenced both it and dubstep, which originally derived from dub, reggae, and dancehall. Originating in the United Kingdom, specifically Croydon, in the early 2010s as a resurgence of the style used by early dubstep works, riddim started to gain mainstream presence in the electronic music scene around 2015.
