Thomas H. "Toad" Ramsey was an American Major League Baseball player who pitched in the majors from 1885 to 1890. Ramsey spent his entire career in the American Association,split between two different teams. He played for the Louisville Colonels and St. Louis Browns. He is sometimes credited with inventing a pitch,the knuckleball. He was one of the top pitchers in the Association for more than two years,with statistics that put him in the top five in multiple pitching categories.
Herbert Rodney "Hub" Perdue,also known as The Gallatin Squash was a professional baseball player who played pitcher in the Major Leagues from 1911 to 1915. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Braves. He later managed the Nashville Volunteers in the Southern Association in 1921.
Joseph William Engel was an American left-handed pitcher and scout in Major League Baseball who spent nearly his entire career with the Washington Senators,and went on to become a promoter and team owner in the minor leagues. He was born in Washington,D.C. as one of six children of a German immigrant who owned a bar/hotel next door to the Washington Post building in the District of Columbia. Engel was married twice and lost his only child,son Bryant,due to a traffic accident in Nov. 1930 at age 9. Engel himself died in Chattanooga in 1969 at age 76.

A native of Waxahachie,Texas,he was associated for many years with a fellow townsman,Paul Richards,who as a manager or general manager employed Adair as a coach for three MLB teams.
