Joel Coughlan (born 13 July 1988) is an Australian Paralympic table tennis player.
He represented Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. [1] He and his teammates Ma Lin and Nathan Pellissier won silver after Australia was defeated by China in the Men's team - class 9-10 gold medal final. [1]
Coughlan was born on 13 July 1988. [2] In 2007, he had a workplace accident in industrial workshop in Rockhampton. Half a tonne of mining equipment fell from a forklift and resulted in him having 3½ toes on his right foot amputated. [3] This led to "19 operations, endless physiotherapy treatment, skin grafting, renal dialysis and a tendon transfer, not to mention suffered a lot of pain". [3] In 2021, he lives in Norman Gardens, Rockhampton and works as a Sales and Service Manager.
Coughlan is classified as C10 table tennis player. Prior to his accident, he was a professional table tennis player. [3] He made his international debut at the 2009 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Para-table Tennis Asia and Oceania Championships in Amman, Jordan. [2] At the 2011 ITTF Para-table Tennis Asia and Oceania Championships in Hong Kong, he defeated the world No. 3 in the men's singles Class 10. He narrowly missed selection to the Australian Paralympic Team for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. [2]
At the 2019 Oceania Para Table Tennis Championships, Darwin, he won the gold medal in the Men's Singles Class 6-10 and gold medal with Nathan Pellissier in the Class 6-10 Teams. [4]
Coughlan was selected to represent Australia in the 2020 Summer Paralympics, held in Tokyo in 2021. [5]
In the opening match of the Men's individual - class 10 event, Coughlan competed against Filip Radovic from Montenegro where he was defeated in a four-game match, three of which were decided by narrow margins. [6] However, he secured a maiden win in the second match against Alabi Olabiyi Olufemi from Nigeria which allowed him to play unsuccessfully against Lian Hao for a spot in the quarter-final. [7]
In the Men's team - class 9-10 event, Australia won silver after Coughlan and teammate Ma Lin were defeated 2-0 by China's duo of Lian Hao and Yi Qing Zhao in the gold medal final. [1] [8]
After his efforts in Tokyo, Coughlan was recognised as the Rockhampton Region's Sportsperson of the Year at the local Australia Day Awards held at Kershaw Gardens in Rockhampton on 26 January 2022. [9] [10]
Natalia Dorota Partyka is a Polish para table tennis player. Born without a right hand and forearm, she participates in competitions for able-bodied athletes as well as in competitions for athletes with disabilities. Partyka reached the last 32 of the London 2012 Olympic women's table tennis.
Borislava Perić-Ranković is a disabled Serbian table tennis player. She represented Serbia at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Paralympics in table tennis, winning one gold and three silver medals. She competes in the disability class 4. In the 2016 Summer Paralympics she won her first Paralympic gold medal in the individual class 4 competition, defeating China's Zhang Miao in the finals. At the 2020 Summer Paralympics, she won a bronze medal.
Lisa Daniela "Danni" Di Toro is an Australian wheelchair tennis and para table tennis player. Di Toro was the 2010 French Open doubles champion and has also been the Masters double champion. In singles, Di Toro is the former world number one and two time masters finalist. In 2015, she moved to para-table tennis and represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, where she was team captain with Kurt Fearnley. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, her seventh Paralympics, she was the team captain and Opening Ceremony flag bearer with Ryley Batt. She has been selected to compete at her eight Paralympics in Paris.
Kelly van Zon is a Dutch table tennis player competing in both disabled and able-bodied competitions. She currently plays for Dutch club TTV SKF in Veenendaal. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Women's individual class 7, winning a gold medal, and in Women's team class 6–8, winning a silver medal.
Melissa Tapper is an Australian table tennis player. After competing at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, she represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in elite non-Paralympic competition. In March 2016, she became the first Australian athlete to qualify for both the Summer Olympics and Summer Paralympics.
Rebecca Julian is an Australian table tennis player. She has represented Australia at three Summer Paralympics - 2008, 2012 and 2020 in women's doubles and singles table tennis.
Dian David Mickael Jacobs was an Indonesian athlete who competed in table tennis, primarily Class 10 para table tennis. Born in Ujung Pandang, he took up table tennis at the age of ten and rose quickly through national tournaments. He was training to play internationally by 2000, and in 2001 he won his first gold medal, at the SEATTA Championships in Singapore. After 2010 he competed in para table tennis, having spent most of his career competing against athletes with full functionality. Having lost control in his right hand, he decided to compete in the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, winning a bronze medal.
Bhavina Hasmukhbhai Patel is an Indian parathlete and table tennis player from Mehsana, Gujarat. She won a silver medal in Class 4 Table tennis at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.
Guy Nicholas Henly is an Australian Paralympic athlete. He currently competes in discus and shot put and has won medals at the 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023 World Para Athletics Championships. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and has been selected for the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Samuel Von Einem is an Australian Paralympic table tennis player. Von Einem has represented Australia in table tennis since 2011. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, where he won silver medals in the Men's Class 11. At Rio Paralympics, he became Australia's first male table tennis medalist since Terry Biggs won gold in 1984. He has been selected for the 2024 Summer Paralympics.
Australia participated at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, from 24 August to 5 September 2021. It sent its largest away team - 179 athletes to a Summer Paralympics. Australia finished eighth on the gold medal table and sixth on the total medals table.

Maksym Nikolenko is a Ukrainian para table tennis player. He won the gold medal in the men's team C6–8 event at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
