Johannis "Ahang" Winar (born 24 December 1970) is an Indonesian basketball coach for the Pelita Jaya Bakrie of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL), the Indonesia national team and was also a former player.^[1]

Playing career

Regional select teams and club career

Ahang was selected to join the South Sulawesi team for the 1988 National Championship (Kejurnas) in Semarang where he was top scorer. His performance led to his first professional contract.^[2]

Ahang also became the mainstay of his regional team towards the 1989 National Sports Week in Jakarta. His talent attracted the Kobatama club from Banjarmasin at that time, Bandar Utama. There, he started in the second team.^[3]

Unfortunately for Anhang, in 1993, Banjar Utama which was owned by Pak Budi Surya disbanded but Anhang stayed in Banjarmasin.^[3]

At the 1993 National Sports Week in Jakarta he played for South Kalimantan.^[3] His next team was Daya Sakti. Then, Ahang received an offer from the Kobatama club Panasia Indosyntec. In his first year 1996, Panasia finished as runner-up. The following two seasons, they won the title.^[3]

Ahang was with Panasia until 2003. He then moved to Satria Muda Jakarta where he won the 2004 IBL title.^[3]

National team

In 1997, Ahang was also included in the Indonesian national team for the 1997 SEA Games in Jakarta, but failed to get a medal. Two years later, Ahang returned to the national team and won the bronze medal at the Brunei 1999 SEA Games.^[3]

Coaching career

In 2006 he returned to Bandung, at that time Panasia had changed its name to Garuda Bandung. There he became assistant coach to Kak Amran.^[3]

In 2009, Ahang became head coach at Amartha Hangtuah in South Sumatra for the first time, but only for half a season. He later became assistant coach of Stadium Jakarta.^[3]

In 2010, he was entrusted with controlling Garuda Bandung. Garuda managed to win the DKI Governor's Cup tournament, and finished 4th place in the regular round.^[3]

In 2013 he moved to Pelita Jaya, became an assistant coach for Nath Canson then accompanied Antonius F. Rinaldo until he was finally appointed as head coach of Pelita Jaya and successfully led his team to become IBL 2017 champions.^[3]

He led Pelita Jaya to the 2017 IBL Indonesia championship where his team defeated Satria Muda Pertamina 3–1 in the final. This accomplishment was noteworthy as some of the team's best players had recently departed. These players included Andy Batam, Dimas Aryo Dewanto, and Kelly Purwanto.^[4]

As an executive, Anhang has stressed the need for a competition level below the IBL. “Players from the Student League still need more flight hours before competing in the IBL. For that, a national competition under the IBL is needed to mature them,” he suggested in December 2017.^[3]

In 2019, Winar quit his coaching position as head coach of Pelita Jaya and was replaced by Octaviarro Romely Tamlahitu. Winar became assistant coach of Indonesia's national team, also nicknamed the Indonesian Patriots.^[4]

Personal

His nickname is Ahang.^[4] Anhang's mother, father and uncle were all basketball players. His father Hendy Winar and his uncle Arlan Winarso were even national team players.^[2] Hendy Winar has also been head coach of Flying Wheel Makassar, a team in Indonesia's first division for women.^[3]

Anhang started basketball while in elementary school. Later, he went to Cenderawasih Catholic High School which is especially known for its basketball and volleyball teams.^[3]

He married Joan Suryana, a player for the Indonesian women's national team.^[3]

Daniel Timothy Wenas is an Indonesian professional basketball player that currently plays for Amartha Hangtuah of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL). He mainly plays Point Guard and Shooting Guard and on occasion, also plays the Small Forward position. Wenas attended Negeri 3 Jakarta of high school for his high school and played for at Perbanas Institute university where he was a member of their basketball team from 2011 to 2016. He was also recruited and played professionally for Pelita Jaya Esia during his time at Perbanas.

The 2020 Indonesian Basketball League was the fifth season since the re-branding by Starting5. The regular season began on 10 January 2020 and was suspended on 13 March until 23 June 2020, then both remaining series at the regular season in Yogyakarta (UNY) and Malang, as well as the post season in Jakarta has been cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The season originally resumed and concluded directly with the playoffs on 13 until 27 October 2020 at Mahaka Square, Jakarta. Originally, the playoffs were scheduled to begin on 27 March until 12 April 2020, and end with the Finals in 17 and 18 or 19 April 2020. The All-Star game was played on 9 February 2020, at the GOR UNY, Yogyakarta, and was won by IBL All-Stars, 157–155. There was no official Pre-Season held for this season, however 2019 Indonesia President's Cup that was held from 20 November to 24 November 2019 in Solo, Indonesia was treated as the pre-season.

The 2021 Indonesian Basketball League was the sixth season since the re-branding by Starting5. The regular season began on 10 March 2021 and was ended with the Finals in June 2021. In this season there would be no official preseason tournament and all-star games, while throughout the season would be played inside a bubble in Bogor and Jakarta due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, every player, staff, and official must follow the strict health protocols implemented by the organizers.

The 2022 Indonesian Basketball League was the seventh season since the re-branding by Starting5. After successfully implemented the "bubble" system in last year's season, IBL decided to return into the Series format with the supporters are returning into stadium. The season would be held with implementing strict health protocols that recommended by the government. The regular season began on 15 January 2022 and was suspended on 2 February 2022 until 3 March 2022, then the remaining series at the regular season in Yogyakarta, Solo, Surabaya, Denpasar, as well as the post season in Bandung has been cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The series return again to "bubble" after many players get Covid-19.

The 2023 Indonesian Basketball League is the eighth season of Indonesian top domestic basketball league since the re-branding by Starting5. This season marked the 20th Anniversary of the IBL indonesia since its establishment in 2003.

The Perbanas Rhinos Men's Basketball team represents Perbanas Institute in Jakarta, Indonesia. They are a member of the Liga Mahasiswa (LIMA).
