John Acquaviva (born 1963) is an Italian Canadian DJ, producer, artist, and musical entrepreneur.
Acquaviva began his career in Detroit where he performed under the name of J'acquaviva+8. He met fellow DJ Richie Hawtin at The Shelter, (where Hawtin was mentored by Scott "Go-Go" Gordon) and the two tried unsuccessfully to catch the attention of labels like Transmat. In 1989, Acquaviva and Hawtin founded what would become one of the world's best known and influential techno labels, [1] Plus 8 Records. The founding of Plus 8 Records put John Acquaviva and Richie Hawtin at the vanguard of the emerging international electronic music movement and DJ culture. In May 1990, they released the new label's first records, "Elements of Tone" and "We Shall Overcome". [2]
In 1993, Acquaviva and Hawtin also founded Definitive Recordings. Acquaviva was one of the first people to take notice and embrace electronic music's digital future at the dawn of 2000 by championing Final Scratch. And following that success, Acquaviva took another step to help found and launch Beatport.com , the largest dance-music download site in the world.
Acquaviva currently runs Definitive Recordings, a label that he began in 1993 with Richie Hawtin and Karl Kowalski. After the label's hiatus in the late 1990s, Acquaviva relaunched Definitive Recordings in 2005 with an entertainment attorney, Mark Quail. Since then, the label has carved out a name with its distinctive tech house sound and six number one tunes on Beatport.com .
Not satisfied with just his own work, Acquaviva started fostering new artists for his Definitive label, DJ and producers such as Olivier Giacomotto, Simon Doty, Damon Jee, DJ Tonio, Jan Van Lier and Dan Diamon.
Having been on the international DJ circuit since the founding of Plus 8 in 1990 and on a perpetual world tour ever since, Acquaviva achieved his commercial pinnacle in 2006 when he reached number 22 on the DJ Mag 2006 list.
His international career has spanned well over two decades, throughout thousands of parties with millions of people having heard him play, keeping him in high demand. Acquaviva has had, both personally and with his label, six number ones and narrowly missed a seventh when his track "Sofa King", made together with Olivier Giacomotto, peaked at number two on the overall Beatport chart.
In December 2012, John Acquaviva released an official music video for the underground track "Good Music" made together with Alex D'elia, Nihil Young and the US based singer Dan Diamond.

Richard "Richie" Hawtin is a British-Canadian electronic musician and DJ. He became involved with Detroit techno's second wave in the early 1990s, and has been a leading exponent of minimal techno since the mid-1990s. He became known for his recordings under the Plastikman and F.U.S.E. aliases. Under the latter, he released his debut album Dimension Intrusion (1993) as part of Warp's Artificial Intelligence series.
Tech house is a subgenre of house music that combines stylistic features of techno with house. The term tech house developed as a shorthand record store name for a category of electronic dance music that combined musical aspects of techno, such as "rugged basslines" and "steely beats," with the harmonies and grooves of progressive house. The music originally had a clean and minimal production style that was associated with techno from Detroit and the UK.
Plus 8 is a Canadian techno record label, based in Windsor, Ontario. Along with Underground Resistance and Planet E, Plus 8 was one of the early producers of Detroit Techno's 'Second Wave' music at the start of the 1990s.
Minus or M-nus is a recording label based in Berlin, Germany and Windsor, Canada. It was created in 1998 by Richie Hawtin when Plus 8, a label previously created by Hawtin, was put on hold. By 2005, M-nus was releasing 2 to 3 CDs and 12 to 14 records per year.

Fred Giannelli is an American electronic musician. He began experimenting with electronics in the 1970s as Turning Shrines. In 1984, Giannelli met Psychic TV's Genesis P. Orridge while the group was in Boston for a gig. This led to Giannelli eventually travelling to London to join the band in 1988, arriving just in time for the acid house craze. He then left Psychic TV for the Plus 8 label, working with Detroit DJ and producer Richie Hawtin as Spawn. Continuing under the Plus 8 label, he formed the Telepathic label for his own industrial/techno recordings as the Acid Didj, Giannelli, Deneuve and Mazdaratti. The 1990s saw him release a number of records, including 1997's Unpopular Science under the alias of the Kooky Scientist.
Uroš Umek, better known as DJ Umek or simply UMEK, is a Slovenian dance music producer and DJ. Musically active since 1993, he is the owner of several techno record labels. In 1999 he founded Consumer Recreation and Recycled Loops, the former of which he co-runs with Valentino Kanzyani. Recycled Loops formed the sublabel Earresistible Musick in 2001, and in 2007 Umek founded the large techno label 1605.
Ali Shirazinia, commonly known by his stage name Dubfire, is an Iranian American house and techno DJ and producer. Prior to his solo career, Dubfire made up half of the duo Deep Dish. Dubfire's style is noticeably different from that of Deep Dish, consisting of techno rather than progressive house.

CNTRL: Beyond EDM was an educational initiative, centred on electronic dance music (EDM), and comprising music production seminars, lessons in the music business and live music performances on a tour of North American universities. Organised by a core team of Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice and Ean Golden, the tour included many high-profile guest speakers and performers. Their stated aim was "engaging young North American fans of EDM and showing them the roots of the music, the history of a global movement and demonstrating what the future of music technology and performance has the power to become." Partners included Sennheiser, New York DJ school Dubspot and DJTechtools magazine. The CNTRL branding featured a fingerprint/circuitboard logo representing the expression of musicians' individuality through electronics.

Olivier J. L. Heldens is a Dutch DJ and electronic music producer from Rotterdam. He is regarded as a pioneer of the future house genre, propelling it to international attention and scoring numerous chart successes, including "Gecko (Overdrive)", "Last All Night (Koala)", "The Right Song", "Fire in My Soul", and "Turn Me On". Justin James Warnock, commonly known by his stage name Justin James, is a Canadian electronic musician, DJ, educator and label owner. He has become an influential part of Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan’s Techno scenes. He is best known for his work with Richie Hawtin’s "Minus" records and Dubfire’s "Sci+Tec" record label, as well for his DJing techno sets making use of laptop computers and digital mixing equipment. In May 2014, James founded his own record label, Refused.

It is an Austin, Texas based record label and creative collective that serves as a platform for international artists to showcase their work.
