John Murumba Chikati (born 15 November 1962) is a Kenyan politician and the current Secretary General [1] for the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy –Kenya (FORD-Kenya). Chikati is also the current Member of National Assembly for Tongaren Constituency, [2] [3] and the current Secretary General for Catholic MPs Spiritual Support Initiative (CAMPSSI) [4] . He is the immediate former Special Secretary for Strategy and Delivery in the Office of the Deputy President. [5]
Dr. Chikati is an Adjunct Faculty in the Project Management Department of the Commonwealth Open University. [6]
1976-1977,schooled at Ortum Primary,from where he did Certificate,Certificate Of Primary Education (CPE).
In 1978,Dr. Chikati joined Teremi Secondary School,Bungoma,from where he did he attained a Kenya Ordinary Level Certificate (Form 4) in 1981.he later joined Mother Of Apostles Seminary for Form 5 and Form six,advanced level education,graduating in 1982 with a Kenya Advanced Level Certificate ( Form 6). Dr. Chikati joined the University of Nairobi in 1985 to study history,graduating in 1989 with a B.A. History. Later,1990,he would join Commonwealth Open University for a masters degree in project management. He graduated with Master Of Science,Project Management degree in 1991. In 2010,Chikati enrolled for a post graduate program at the same university and graduated with a Phd. Management in 2013. [8]
Dr. Chikati also holds a diploma in Personnel Management &Administration (1991) and a diploma in Modern Management &Administration (1992),all from Cambridge Tutorial College. [9]
In 2015,Chikati was appointed by the president Uhuru Kenyatta as a Director at Nzoia Sugar Company where he served until 2017. [10] [11]
In 2018,he was appointed as the Special Secretary for Strategy and Delivery in the Office of the Deputy President William Samoei Ruto where he worked until March 2022. [5] [12]
In April,2023 the Ford Kenya top organ settled on John Chikati as the party's new Secretary General replaces former Kiminini lawmaker Chris Wamalwa. The party's National Management Committee unanimously picked Chikati during a meeting held at Machakos county's Maanzoni lodge. [1]
Chikati made his political debut in the 2002 General Election when he sought to vie for the Kimilili parliamentary seat,losing to the then minister for Trade and Industry Minister Mukhisa Kituyi. He returned again in 2007,this time vying on ODM party. However,as fate would have it,he lost to a new entrant Eseli Simiyu. [13] John Chikati vied for Tongaren Constituency parliamentary seat in the 2013 General elections on the United Democratic Forum (UDF) party ticket where he emerged second. [14] [15]
Chikati joined the Jubilee party [16] in the 2017 General elections where he lost to the former FORD-Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu [17] while vying for Member of National Assembly for Tongaren Constituency. [18]
In 2022,while vying on a FORD-Kenya party ticket, [19] Chikati won in the 2022 General elections as the Member of National Assembly for Tongaren Constituency [2] [20] with over 20,000 votes. [21]
The Bukusu people are one of the 17 Kenyan tribes of the Luhya Bantu people of East Africa residing mainly in the counties of Bungoma and Trans Nzoia. They are the largest tribe of the Luhya nation,with 1,188,963 identifying as Bukusu in the 2019 Kenyan census. They speak the Bukusu dialect.

The Tachoni is one of the 17 sub-tribes that form the Luhya people of western Kenya,known for its gallant defense of the Chetambe in 1895 when resisting British rule. Tachoni people were masters at building forts such as Chetambe,Lumboka,and Kiliboti. It was their defiance of colonialism that led to the colonial government putting the entire region occupied by the Tachoni under administration of paramount chiefs drawn from Bunyala and Wanga communities. haring the land with the Abanyala,the Kabras,Nandi,and Bukusu tribe. They live mainly in Webuye,Chetambe Hills,Ndivisi Matete sub-county-Lwandeti,Maturu,Mayoyo,Lukhokho,Kiliboti,Kivaywa,Chepsai,and Lugari sub-county in Kakamega County. Most Tachoni clans living in Bungoma speak the ' Olutachoni dialect of the Luhya language,and they are subsequently often mistaken as Bukusus. They spread to Trans-Nzoia County especially around Kitale,and to Uasin Gishu County near Turbo,Eldoret. Among the Tachoni clans are Abachikha -further divided into Abakobolo,Abamuongo,Abachambai,Abamakhanga,Abacharia,and Abakabini,Abamarakalu,Abangachi -who are further divided into:Abawaila,Abakhumaya and Abawele,Abasang'alo,Abasamo,Abayumbu,Abaluu,Abarefu,Abanyangali,Abamuchembi,Abamakhuli,Abasioya,Abaabichu,Abacheo,Abamachina,Abaengele,Abamutama,Abakafusi,Abasonge,Abasaniaka,Abaabiya also known as Abakatumi,Abakubwayi,Abakamutebi,Abakamukong,Abamweya,Abalukulu,Abawande,Abatukiika,Abachimuluku. Note that the morpheme 'aba' means 'people'. The Abakhusia/abasamo of Kabras are also Tachonis who speak Kikabras. Abayumbu and Abaluu are twin brothers,hence do not intermmary.

Tongaren is an electoral constituency in Kenya. Tongaren constituency politically came into existence in 2012 prior to the 2013 general election. The constituency was carved off from the then larger Kimilili Constituency. It is one of the 290 constituencies in Kenya and one of the 9 constituencies in Bungoma County. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) registered 84,952 voters in Tongaren constituency for the August 9th 2022 general election in Kenya.

Athanas Misiko Wafula Wamunyinyi is a Kenyan politician who is leader of the Democratic Action Party. He began his career in politics when he was elected as MP for Kanduyi Constituency in 1997. He was in his twenties at the time. Wamunyinyi was re-elected for the same seat in 2002. In the infamous 2007 elections he lost his seat but later re-emerged to serve another 2 consecutive terms from 2013 to 2022.
