John Clark (born 10 January 1948) is an Australian former rower. He was a six-time national champion who competed at world championships and in the men's eight event at the 1972 Summer Olympics. [1]
John Clark was educated at Sydney Grammar School where he took up rowing. He rowed in the Grammar first VIII in both his senior years of 1964 and 1965. [2] He joined the Mosman Rowing Club straight out of school and his senior club rowing was from Mosman. At Sydney University while studying Agricultural Science he also rowed and was seated at 5 in the Sydney University Boat Club senior eight for the 1967 Intervarsity Championships. [3] the Nepean River.
In Mosman crews Clark contested both the coxed and the coxless four events at the 1970 Australian Rowing Championships and he won the national title in the coxless four. [4] He won both the national coxed pair and the coxless four titles in Mosman crews in 1975 [5] and in 1976 he again contested both the coxed and the coxless four events and won the coxless four national championship. [6] His final year of Sydney club rowing was from the Drummoyne Rowing Club and coached by Rusty Robertson. [2]
He first made state selection for New South Wales in the men's eight which contested and won the 1968 King's Cup at the annual Interstate Regatta. [7] He raced in further New South Wales King's Cup crews in 1969, 1971 [8] and 1972 and saw a second victory in 1972. [9]
Six members of the New South Wales winning King's Cup eight of 1968 were selected into the Australian eight to contest the 1968 Mexico City Olympics but excluding Clark and John Nickson. However Clark and Nickson were named as reserves close to departure, travelled to Mexico and rowed as a pair in a lead-up race. [2]
The entire New South Wales winning King's Cup eight of 1972 was picked as the Australian eight to compete at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Clark rowed in the six seat of that boat when they rowed to an eighth place finish in Munich. [10]
In 1975 as the Australian champion coxed pair Clark, Michael Crowley and coxswain Terry O'Hanlon were selected to race Australia's coxed pair at the 1975 World Rowing Championships in Nottingham. They were eliminated in the repechage. [11]
After university Clark taught high-school history and science and also coached rowing at Cranbrook School (1976), at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill (1977-78) and then the Shore School. He. moved to country New South Wales in 1980, to run a pastoral property near Warialda. [2]
Robert "Bob" Alan Shirlaw is an Australian former rower and stalwart school level rowing coach. He rowed at the 1964 Summer Olympics and the 1968 Summer Olympics.
David J. Weightman is an Australian former rower. He was a national champion and representative at World Rowing Championships, an Olympian and an Olympic silver medallist.

Alexander (Steve) Purnell is an Australian rower. He is an Olympic and national champion who has represented at underage and senior world championships. In 2018 in an Australian eight, he won the Grand Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta. He rowed in the bow seat of the Australian men's coxless four to a gold medal victory at the Tokyo Olympics.
Kim Mackney is an Australian former representative rower. He competed in the men's coxless pair event at the 1972 Summer Olympics. From school until the national elite representative level and onto a long world-class masters career, Mackney rowed competitively for over fifty years. He can be credited with salvaging and re-establishing the Glebe Rowing Club in Sydney after its 1992 demise.
Robert D. Paver is an Australian dermatologist and Mohs surgeon and a former national representative rower. As a rower he was a four-time Australian champion who represented at world championships and competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics and the 1976 Summer Olympics.
Kerry Peter Jelbart is an Australian former representative rower. He competed in the men's eight event at the 1972 Summer Olympics and twice at World Rowing Championships.

Brian Richardson is an Australian former rower and rowing coach. He competed at the national elite level over a fifteen-year period representing both South Australian and Victoria. He was a representative at three world championships and at the 1976 Montreal and the 1980 Moscow Olympics. In a twenty-three year coaching career, he held national head coaching roles in both Canada and Australia from 1993 to 2008 and personally coached national crews to twelve world championship or Olympic medals.
Gordon Clubb is an Australian former rower. He was an eight-time national champion rower who represented at three world championships. He won four consecutive Australian national championship titles in a coxed four from 1977 to 1980.
Edward V "Terry" O'Hanlon is an Australian former rowing coxswain. He was seven times an Australian national champion who coxed Australian representative crews at two World Rowing Championships.
Paul Francis Rowe was an Australian representative rower and elite level rowing coach. He was an eight-time Australian national champion in both sweep oared and sculling boats across both lightweight and open divisions. He was Australia's lightweight sculling representative at the 1975 World Rowing Championships. He coached scullers and crews to three Australia national title wins and to world championships and to Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
