John Cowdell

John Alexander Cowdell AM (born 24 May 1953) is a former Australian politician.

Born in Perth, Cowdell holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education. He worked as a public servant and adviser to Kim Beazley before being appointed Assistant Secretary of the Western Australian Labor Party; he was also Dean of Kingswood College at the University of Western Australia. In 1993 he was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Council for South West. From 1997 to 2001 he was Shadow Minister for Parliamentary and Electoral Affairs as well as Deputy President of the Council; in 2001 he became President. Cowdell retired from politics in 2005. [1]

Awards and recognition

Cowdell was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2001. [2] He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2010 Australia Day Honours "For service to the Parliament of Western Australia, to regional development, and to the community, particularly through contributions to history and heritage". [3]

Michael Jenkins Crouch was Chairman of Australian private company Midgeon Holdings Pty Ltd. Midgeon acted as a holding vehicle for his long-term investments which include interests in Australian manufacturing, beef production, meat processing and property. Until December 2013 he was also Executive Chairman of Zip Industries, a manufacturing company he founded following his acquisition in 1962 of Zip Heaters.

Roger Corfield Anson Wotton was an Australian politician. He was the Country Party member for Burrendong from 1968 to 1971 and from 1973 to 1981, and then for Castlereagh from 1981 to 1991 in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly.

Henry Bernard "Barney" French was an Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1973 to 1991.

Janice Clare Reid is an Australian academic and medical anthropologist, who has specialised in Aboriginal and refugee health. She was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Western Sydney from 1998 to 2013.
