Radford University is a public university in Radford,Virginia. It is one of the state's eight doctorate-granting public universities. Founded in 1910,Radford offers curricula for undergraduates in more than 100 fields,graduate programs including the M.F.A.,M.B.A.,M.A.,M.S.,Ed.S.,Psy.D.,M.S.W.,and specialized doctoral programs in health-related professions. It is classified among "Doctoral/Professional Universities".

S.B. Ballard Stadium,formerly Foreman Field,is a 21,944-seat multi-purpose stadium on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk,Virginia. It opened in 1936 with a football game between the University of Virginia and the College of William &Mary's Norfolk Division,which is now Old Dominion University. It is currently the home of Old Dominion Monarchs football.
Green Run High School is a public secondary school located at 1700 Dahlia Drive of the Green Run area of Virginia Beach,Virginia. Green Run hosts a very diverse student population many of which come from the large concentration of military families that have moved into the area within the past couple of decades. The school was the largest high school in Virginia when it opened in 1979,with 247,000 feet of space. When it was first opened,it had the largest enrollment in the state. Due to changing demographics and the ensuing addition of new schools,the school is now one of the smallest in Virginia Beach when it comes to student body population. Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is a public medical school in Norfolk,Virginia. Founded by grassroots efforts in the Southeastern part of Virginia known as Hampton Roads,EVMS is not affiliated with an undergraduate institution and coordinates training through multiple medical centers in the Hampton Roads region. EVMS campus includes the 555-bed Sentara Norfolk General Hospital,the region's only tertiary level 1 trauma medical care facility,and the 212-bed Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters,a regional pediatric referral care facility and only stand-alone children's hospital in the state. EVMS is the first institution in the US to have produced a viable fetus through in vitro fertilization. EVMS is most known for its reproductive medicine and simulation/standardized-patient education as well as research in pediatrics,geriatrics,diabetes,and cancer. In addition,EVMS is well known for its leadership in community service and medical missions as evidenced by faculty and alumni responsible for the founding of Operation Smile,Physicians for Peace,Global Brigades,and CONRAD.
Oliver Gordon Purnell Jr. is an American former college basketball coach. He served as the head men's basketball coach at Radford University from 1988 to 1991,Old Dominion University from 1991 to 1994,the University of Dayton from 1994 to 2003,Clemson University from 2003 to 2010,and DePaul University from 2010 to 2015,compiling a career record of 448–386.

The first iteration of the team created in 1930 was known as the William &Mary Norfolk Division Braves. Founded in 2009,the current Monarchs team competed as an FCS independent for their first two seasons. In the 2011 season,they joined the Colonial Athletic Association and added conference games to their schedule,playing there until joining the Conference USA of the FBS in 2014. They joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2022.

The team is a member of the Sun Belt Conference,which is part of NCAA Division I. Old Dominion's first baseball team was fielded in 1931 as the William and Mary College –Norfolk Division Braves. ODU joined Division I in 1977. The team plays its home games at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex in Norfolk,Virginia where it has played since 1982. ODU has won 6 conference tournament titles and have been to the NCAA Tournament nine times. The Monarchs are coached by Chris Finwood,a native of Hampton,Virginia who is in his eleventh year at the helm. The Monarchs have had eleven players reach the Major Leagues and two,Justin Verlander and Daniel Hudson,have played in the World Series.

Brian Hemphill is an American academic administrator,researcher,author and the current president of Old Dominion University,his third university presidency in a decade. Before taking the role at ODU,Hemphill was president of Radford University and West Virginia University. On February 12,2021,Dr. Hemphill was announced as the 9th president of Old Dominion University in Norfolk,Virginia. He had become president of West Virginia University in 2012 and of Radford in 2016. Before the West Virginia position,he had been vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at Northern Illinois University,where he received several student and professional awards,and was praised for his work in the aftermath of a 2008 campus mass shooting. He later edited a book on campus violence as well as presenting papers on leadership and crisis management in higher education.
Travis Donte Fields Jr. is an American professional basketball player who last played for BC Vera of the Georgian Superliga. He played college basketball for Old Dominion and Radford.
The Old Dominion–William &Mary rivalry refers to the U.S. college rivalry games between the Old Dominion Monarchs of the Sun Belt Conference and the William &Mary Tribe of the Colonial Athletic Association. They are the two largest and most historically tenured NCAA Division I rivals in Hampton Roads,Virginia.
