John Richard Vockeroth

John Richard Vockeroth (2 May 1928 - 16 November 2012) was a Canadian entomologist from Broderick, Saskatchewan. [1]

Vockeroth graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1948 with a B.A., followed in 1949 by a M.A. He got a D. Phil. in 1954 at Oxford University with a thesis on Scathophagidae. [1]

Vockeroth was known for his vast knowledge of Diptera, especially on Mycetophilidae, Dolichopodidae, Syrphidae, Scathophagidae, and Muscidae. Overall he first described one family, 42 genera and 130 species of Diptera. [1] He published 120 academic publications on 27 families of flies. [2] In 1997, Vockeroth received the entomological C. P. Alexander award, recognizing him as a leading North American dipterist. [3]

The Regina Pats are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. Founded in 1917, the Pats are the world's oldest continuously operating major junior hockey franchise in its original location and using its original name. The team was originally named the Regina Patricia Hockey Club, after Princess Patricia of Connaught, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria and daughter of the Governor General, the Duke of Connaught. The team name also associates Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry–Pats sweaters bear the regimental badge and "PPCLI" flash as a shoulder patch.
