John Richardson (born November 21, 1958) is a retired American professional wrestler better known by his ring name Johnny Rich. He wrestled for the World Championship Wrestling in the early 1990s, Mid-South Wrestling, Continental Championship Wrestling, Continental Wrestling Association in Memphis, Georgia Championship Wrestling and other Southern promotions.

Professional wrestling career

Rich made his debut in 1981 in Memphis as Roy Rogers. [2] He later worked for Mid-South Wrestling from 1982 to 1983. He made his debut for Continental Championship Wrestling in 1985.

In 1984, he won the NWA Southeast United States Junior Heavyweight Championship defeating Rip Rogers.

Rich was part of the Rat Patrol with Tonga Kid and Steve Armstrong where he won the NWA Southeastern Tag Team Championship four times with them. Later he won the titles again with his real-life cousin Tommy Rich as the Riches twice. [3]

In 1988, he teamed with Davey Rich (David Haskins) billed as his cousin as the Riches and later the Party Patrol in the South and Smoky Mountain Wrestling until 1992.

In 1989, he made his debut in World Championship Wrestling with Davey Rich as a team. In 1990, Rich would go on his own. He participated in the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship tournament where he lost to Richard Morton in the quarter finals in August 1991. [4] He would also team with Joey Maggs as The Creatures, a masked tag team which appeared at Halloween Havoc that year, losing to Big Josh and P. N. News on October 27, 1991. [5] They would continue as a team until 1993. [6] In 1994, Rich left WCW.

He would work in the independent circuit until retiring in 2007.

The Midnight Express was the name used by several professional wrestling tag teams of changing members, usually under the management of Jim Cornette. The group started in 1980 with Dennis Condrey and Randy Rose in Southeast Championship Wrestling. In 1981 they were joined by Norvell Austin. This group disbanded in 1983, but later the same year a new version of the Midnight Express was formed in Mid-South Wrestling by teaming up Condrey and Bobby Eaton, with Cornette as their manager. After leaving Mid-South, the Midnight Express competed briefly in WCCW (Dallas) before moving on to Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP). Condrey left in 1987, and was replaced by Stan Lane. Eaton and Lane competed in JCP and WCW, where they briefly feuded with "The Original Midnight Express" of Condrey and Rose. This version of the Midnight Express disbanded in October 1990 when Cornette and Lane left WCW. In 1998, the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) teamed up Bob Holly and Bart Gunn as "The Midnight Express", who were also managed by Jim Cornette. From 2004 until 2011 various combinations of Condrey, Eaton, and Lane competed as The Midnight Express on the independent circuit.

Continental Championship Wrestling was a professional wrestling promotion based in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Dothan, Alabama, from 1985 until 1989, owned by Ron Fuller. The promotion evolved out of the NWA-affiliated Southeastern Championship Wrestling and Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling territories owned by Fuller, who purchased the Knoxville territory from John Cazana in 1974 and the Alabama/Florida territory in 1977. It took place on October 27, 1990, from the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. This was also the final Halloween Havoc produced by WCW under the NWA, as in January 1991, WCW split from the NWA.
