Johnson Banks is a design consultancy in London founded in 1992 by Michael Johnson. The company specialises in brand consultancy and visual identity systems, focusing on work in the cultural, Government and charity sectors. [1] [2] [3]
The organisation's work includes rebranding charities Shelter, [4] Christian Aid, [5] and the 2010 rebrand of London's Science Museum. [6]
As well as branding the company has also conducted several experimental typography projects. These projects include a bilingual typeface based on Japanese katakana, [7] a pictogrhic symbol set based on Mandarin characters. In January 2012, in collaboration with Ravensbourne college, they created ‘Arkitypo ’ – a typographic alphabet using 3D prototyping techniques. [8]
The consultancy claimed 2003's Fruit and Vegetable collection [9] was inspired by the children's toys, Mr. Potato Head and Fuzzy-Felt. [10] The set included additional stickers so users could customise the stamps with moustaches, hats and legs, glasses and shoes. [11] The Fruit and Vegetable stamps won the Design and Art Direction's black pencil award. [12]
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of John Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney's first meeting Royal Mail [13] commissioned 2007's The Beatles Collection. Barring Royal issues, The Royal Mail sold more copies of The Beatles' stamps than any other series. [14]
In 1999, the Yellow Pages hired the company to update the telephone directory, reduce the amount of pages in the directory and accommodate longer dialling code changes of the late 90's. The organisation designed a condensed Typeface that used contracted ascenders and descenders to save space. [15]
The company led Mozilla's 2016 open design rebrand. [16] Mozilla posted each iteration of Johnson Banks' proposed logos on their blog. After reviewing the blog's comments, they decided on and developed a final logo informed by public opinion. [17]
The company has won a number of awards including seven D&AD "yellow pencils", [21] one D&AD "black pencil", [22] 13 Design Week Awards, [21] four Art Directors Club of New York "cubes" and six distinctive merits.

However, as with all other iOS web browsers, the iOS version uses the WebKit layout engine instead of Gecko due to platform requirements. An optimized version is also available on the Amazon Fire TV as one of the two main browsers available with Amazon's Silk Browser.
Futura is a geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Paul Renner and released in 1927. It was designed as a contribution on the New Frankfurt-project. It is based on geometric shapes, especially the circle, similar in spirit to the Bauhaus design style of the period. It was developed as a typeface by the Bauer Type Foundry, in competition with Ludwig & Mayer's seminal Erbar typeface of 1926.

Mr Kipling is a brand of cakes, pies and baked goods made in Carlton, South Yorkshire and Stoke-on-Trent, and marketed in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and North America. It was introduced in May 1967, to sell cakes of a local baker's standard to supermarkets, and grew to become the United Kingdom's largest cake manufacturer by 1976. The trademark is owned by Premier Foods, after its acquisition of Joseph Marassery (RHM) in 2007.
Rail Alphabet is a neo-grotesque sans-serif typeface designed by Jock Kinneir and Margaret Calvert for signage on the British Rail network. First used at Liverpool Street station, it was then adopted by the Design Research Unit (DRU) as part of their comprehensive 1965 rebranding of the company.

In 2006, a branding issue developed when Mike Connor, representing the Mozilla Corporation, requested that the Debian Project comply with Mozilla standards for use of the Thunderbird trademark when redistributing the Thunderbird software. At issue were modifications not approved by the Mozilla Foundation, when the name for the software remained the same.
FF Meta is a humanist sans-serif typeface family designed by Erik Spiekermann and released in 1991 through his FontFont library. According to Spiekermann, FF Meta was intended to be a "complete antithesis of Helvetica", which he found "boring and bland". It originated from an unused commission for the Deutsche Bundespost. Throughout the 1990s, FF Meta was embraced by the international design community with Spiekermann and E. M. Ginger writing that it had been dubiously praised as the Helvetica of the 1990s.

Whitney is a family of humanist sans-serif digital typefaces, designed by American type designer Tobias Frere-Jones. It was originally created for New York’s Whitney Museum as its institutional typeface. Two key requirements were flexibility for editorial requirements and a design consistency with the Whitney Museum's existing public signage.
Martin John Lambie-Nairn was an English designer. He was the founder of his branding agency Lambie-Nairn and was the creative director of branding agency ML-N. He is recognised for having redefined television brand identity design, being the first to embrace computer technologies to apply branding to screen-based media.
The logo of the BBC has been a brand identity for the corporation and its work since the 1950s in a variety of designs. Until the introduction of a logo in 1958, the corporation had relied on its coat of arms for official documentation and correspondence, although this crest rarely appeared onscreen. With the increased role of television for the BBC in the 1960s, particularly after the foundation of ITV, the corporation used its logo to increase viewer familiarity and to standardise its image and content. The logo has since been redesigned a number of times, most recently in 2021 with the BBC blocks, a logo designed to work across media. From 1958, there have been six different BBC logos. The first logo of the network was used from 1958 to 1963, the second from 1963 to 1971, the third from 1971 to 1992, the fourth from 1988 to 1997, the fifth from 1997 to 2021, while the sixth and current logo was adopted in October 2021.
Michael Johnson is a British designer and brand consultant. In 1992 he founded the design studio Johnson Banks in London, UK. Johnson received the Design and Art Direction (D&AD) black pencil award for his fruit and veg stamp designs and the organisation's President's award in 2017. Johnson has published three books and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) have nineteen of his designs in their permanent collection.

Zilla Slab is a free to use, open source slab serif font commissioned by the Mozilla Foundation as a part of their rebranding process from mid-2016 to 2017. It was created in 2017 by Peter Biľak and Nikola Djurek, typeface designers for the Typotheque foundry. It is inspired by the Tesla Slab font, also originally designed by Typotheque. Its variant, Zilla Slab Highlight, features a unique ligature in its bold weight, where the character sequence “ill” will turn into “://”, purposely intended for using the stylized Mozilla wordmark as “moz://a”.
The Dublin Corporation Wholesale Markets is a market located in the Smithfield area of Dublin in existence from the 6 December 1892 until its closure in 2019. At that point, legacy tenants received compensation and vacated the space to alternative premises to facilitate refurbishments and reopening as a retail and food focused market. In the months following the closure of the market, the onset of COVID-19 resulted in the suspension of the project and the temporary usage of the market to store building materials for nearby construction projects.
