Solomon Islands sent a delegation to compete at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea from 17 September to 2 October 1988. This was the island nation's second time participating in a Summer Olympic Games, following their debut four years earlier. Solomon Islands competed at these games in track and field, archery, boxing, and weightlifting, with one competitor in each category. Only Benjamin Fafale, the weightlifter, completed an event final, finishing 22nd in the middleweight category.
Dahomey sent three delegations to compete at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany from 26 August to 11 September 1972. This was the country's first appearance at a Summer Olympic Games. The delegation consisted of three people, a sprinter, Ibrahima Idrissou, who did not advance past the first heat, boxers Meriga Salou Seriki and Leopold Agbazo who both did not advance to the second round.
Teddy Pierre-Marie Riner is a French heavyweight judoka. In any event that involved a progression through rounds, the Guatemalan athletes did not advance past the first round; as of the Beijing Olympics, there had yet to be a Guatemalan medalist. At the opening ceremony, badminton player Kevin Cordón bore Guatemala's flag.

The American territory with a population of four million people qualified 22 athletes in eight different sports. The appearance of the Puerto Rican delegation at the Beijing Olympics marked the commonwealth's sixteenth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics, and its twenty-second appearance at any Olympic Games, since its debut at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, England. Of its competitors participating in events that involve progression by heats, six athletes advanced at least one round in their events, and two advanced at least two rounds, with Asunción Ocasio almost medaling bronze in taekwondo. However, there were no Puerto Rican medalists at the Beijing Olympics. McWilliams Arroyo, a boxer, bore Puerto Rico's flag at the ceremonies.

The nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony that year was swimmer and Athens medalist George Bovell.

With his brother Manuel Alonso he competed in the men's doubles event at the 1924 Summer Olympics and reached the quarterfinal. With his brother he reached the quarterfinal of the doubles event at the 1924 Wimbledon Championships.
Olivia Dalila Rugama Carmona is Nicaraguan javelin thrower. She represented her nation Nicaragua at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and also registered her own national record of 55.28 metres in the women's javelin throw at the 2007 Bolivarian Games in Caracas, Venezuela.
