Jordan Fraser-Trumble is an Australian film, television and stage actor. [1] [2] He has appeared in the films The Legend of Ben Hall (2016), [3] West of Sunshine (2017), The Cost (2022) [4] [5] and the upcoming Freelance . [6]

Career

Jordan Fraser-Trumble studied at Adelaide College of the Arts from 2007 to 2009. [7] Following that, he studied at 16th St Actors Studio in Melbourne from 2013 to 2014 [8] before receiving a graduate position with the Red Stitch Ensemble. [9]

Fraser-Trumble made his feature film debut as Sub-Inspector James Davidson in the bushranger biopic The Legend of Ben Hall . [10] [11] In 2022, he re-united with director Matthew Holmes in the leading role of The Cost , [12] [13] with his performance garnering critical acclaim [14] [15] [16] and winning "Best Oceanian Actor" at the 2023 Septimius Awards in Amsterdam. [17] [18]

On television, he appeared in the Foxtel documentary series Lawless: The Real Bushrangers (2017) [19] as bushranger Ned Kelly. He also portrayed Detective Lex De Man in the documentary TV series The Cult Of The Family (2019). [20] [21] [22]

In 2024, Fraser-Trumble was announced in the cast of the upcoming war drama The Guns of Muschu . [23]

Bushrangers were armed robbers who hid from authorities in the bush of the British colonies in Australia. The earliest use of the term applied to escaped convicts in the early years of the British settlements in Australia. The Story of the Kelly Gang is a 1906 Australian Bushranger film directed by Charles Tait. It traces the exploits of 19th-century bushranger and outlaw Ned Kelly and his gang, with the film being shot in and around Melbourne. The original cut of this silent film ran for more than an hour with a reel length of about 1,200 metres (4,000 ft), making it the longest narrative film yet seen in the world. It premiered at Melbourne's Athenaeum Hall on 26 December 1906 and was first shown in the United Kingdom in January 1908. A commercial and critical success, it is regarded as the origin point of the bushranging drama, a genre that dominated the early years of Australian film production. Since its release, many other films have been made about the Kelly legend.

Bushranger's Ransom, or A Ride for Life was an Australian silent film produced by Pathé Frères' in 1911, their first motion picture production in Australia after establishing a branch office in Sydney in April 1910. It was adapted from a stage play first performed in 1907 by E. I. Cole's Bohemian Dramatic Company.

The bushranger ban was a ban on films about bushrangers that came into effect in parts of Australia in 1911–12. Films about bushrangers had been the most popular genre of local films ever since The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906). Governments were worried about the influence this would have on the population and bans against films depicting bushrangers were introduced in South Australia (1911), New South Wales and Victoria (1912).

The Search for Weng Weng is a 2013 documentary film about Filipino actor Weng Weng (1957–1992), directed by Andrew Leavold. The film follows Leavold's quest to discover the story of the largely forgotten actor, whose real name was Ernesto de la Cruz. His starring roles were in locally produced action comedies films that found worldwide distribution in the early 1980s. Weng Weng is the shortest leading man in cinema history, standing at 83 cm. Ben Hall is an Australian actor. He is known for his roles in Australian television series which began with his role as Finton Kelly in the Showcase drama Devil's Playground. From 2016 until 2022, Hall played the role of Ned Willis in the soap opera Neighbours. In 2023, Hall filmed the role of Mark Waugh in the Nine Network television series, Warnie.

The Cost is a 2022 Australian revenge drama directed by Matthew Holmes from an original screenplay by Matthew Holmes and Gregory Moss. Set over 48 hours, the film follows two men as they seek to enact vengeance on a convicted felon, by taking him deep into the bush to inflict a series of brutal punishments. It stars Jordan Fraser-Trumble, Damon Hunter, Kevin Dee, Nicole Pastor and Clayton Watson.

The Guns of Muschu is a 2006 novel by Australian author Don Dennis based on the diary of Sapper Mick Dennis, who was the sole survivor of Operation Copper, a daring raid on the Japanese occupied island of Muschu in 1945 which was carried out by members of the Z Special Unit during World War II.

The Guns of Muschu is an upcoming film to be directed by Matthew Holmes from a screenplay by Tom Broadhurst and Jack Brislee. The film, an adaptation of the novel of the same name, will star Australian actor Ben Hall in the leading role of Mick Dennis.
