Jordan Davis Hartney (born July 26, 1988 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian swimmer who specializes in the individual medley.
He grew up in Richmond, British Columbia and is the youngest of three siblings. Hartney started swimming at the age of 3 and trained with the Richmond Racers Swim Club until he was 8 years of age. He attended Howard Debeck Elementary School until he was 8 years old and moved to White Rock, British Columbia. There, he attended Ecole Laronde Elementary and then Elgin Park Secondary. Hartney continued swimming in White Rock and joined the Pacific Sea Wolves Swim Club. He stopped swimming halfway through the season when he was 13 years old, but returned the next season because he missed the sport and joined the Richmond Rapids Swim Club. [1]
At the age of 18, Hartney attended the University of British Columbia and swam on the varsity team. He began his second year with the UBC Thunderbirds after having an extremely successful rookie season. In 2008, Hartney was training with Derek Schoof, head of the UBCD and Thunderbirds swim coach. Already considered one of the premier individual medley swimmers in the country, Hartney continued to grow at both the CIS and international level.[ citation needed ]
At the 2007 CIS Championships he claimed two silver medals in the 200 and 400 IM, behind former world record holder and teammate Brian Johns, placing fifth in the 200 butterfly, and ninth in the 200 backstroke. [2] At the 2008, CIS Championships Hartney won the gold medal in the 400 IM with a time of 4:17.06, silver medal in the 200 IM and 200 butterfly, and bronze in the 200 backstroke. [3]
Hartney was named the National age group champion in the 100 and 200 butterfly, and the 200 and 400 IM at the 2004 Club National championships in Winnipeg. [4] In 2005, he represented Canada at the Australia Youth Festival. [4] Hartney competed at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships and finished 5th in the 200 IM and 4th in the 400 IM. [5]
In the summer of 2007, Hartney represented Canada at the World University Games in Bangkok. He placed fifth in the 400 IM with personal best time of 4:21.99 [6]
Hartney uses music, breathing and visualization techniques to help him prepare for a big race. [7]
Brian Lawrence Johns is a former competition swimmer from Canada. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, he grew up in Richmond, British Columbia and trained with the Aquanauts and Racers swim clubs. He started swimming at age five. He attended the University of British Columbia, where he was a member of the UBC Thunderbirds varsity swimming team. He held the world record in the 400-metre individual medley (short-course), with a time of 4:02.72. He won a silver medal at the 2002 world championships in Moscow, Russia in the 400-metre individual medley, and a bronze at the 1999 World Championships in Hong Kong in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay.
Kirsty Leigh Coventry Seward is a Zimbabwean swimmer and politician currently serving as the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation in the Cabinet of Zimbabwe since September 2018. A former Olympic swimmer and world record holder, she is the most decorated Olympian from Africa. She is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and was elected the Chairperson of the IOC Athletes' Commission, the body that represents all Olympic athletes worldwide in early 2018.
László Cseh is a retired Hungarian competitive swimmer and six-time Olympic medalist. He is a 33-time European Champion. His father, László Cseh Sr., also represented Hungary at the Olympics in swimming. In 2020 Braden Keith of SwimSwam nominated him as number 1 within top 10 male swimmers who have never won Olympic gold.
Jessica Deglau was a member of the Canadian Olympic team in swimming in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. Deglau swam for the Vancouver Pacific Swim Club in her youth, until becoming a member of the national team. In addition to swimming on the national team, she swam for and graduated from the University of British Columbia.
Donna-Marie Gurr, CM is a former swimmer from Canada, who won the bronze medal in the 200m backstroke at the 1972 Summer Olympics.
Ricardo Prado is an Olympic and former World Record holding medley swimmer from Brazil. He was one of the greatest swimmers in the history of Brazil and the best Brazilian swimmer in the 1980s.
Julia Elizabeth Smit is an American competition swimmer, two-time Olympic medalist, and former world record-holder in two events. She has won a total of nine medals in major international competition, six golds, two silvers, and one bronze spanning the Olympics and Pan American Games.
Michael Fred Phelps II is an American former competitive swimmer. He is the most successful and most decorated Olympian of all time with a total of 28 medals. Phelps also holds the all-time records for Olympic gold medals (23), Olympic gold medals in individual events (13), and Olympic medals in individual events (16). At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Phelps tied the record of eight medals of any color at a single Games, held by gymnast Alexander Dityatin, by winning six gold and two bronze medals. Katinka Hosszú is a Hungarian competitive swimmer specialized in individual medley events. She is a three-time Olympic champion and a nine-time long-course world champion. She is the owner of a Budapest-based swim school and swim club called Iron Swim Budapest, and a co-owner and captain of Team Iron, founding member of the International Swimming League.
Kelly Stefanyshyn is a Canadian competitive swimmer and backstroke specialist who represented her native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Stefanyshyn was a member of Canada's sixth-place team in the women's 4x100-metre medley relay. Individually, she also finished eighth in the women's 200-metre backstroke, and competed in the semifinals of the 100-metre backstroke.
Scott Tyler Clary is an American former competition swimmer and Olympic gold medalist. In his Olympic debut at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Clary won gold in the 200-meter backstroke in Olympic record time. In total, he won sixteen medals in major international competitions: three gold, eight silver, and five bronze spanning the Summer Olympics, the FINA World Championships, the Pan Pacific Championships, and the Pan American Games.

Madeline Jane "Maya" DiRado-Andrews is a retired American competitive swimmer who specialized in freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, and individual medley events. She attended and swam for Stanford University, where she won NCAA titles in the 200 and 400 meter individual medley in 2014 and graduated with a degree in management science and engineering. At the 2016 US Olympic Trials, DiRado qualified to swim the 200 meter and 400 meter individual medley events, as well as the 200 meter backstroke, at the 2016 Summer Olympics. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she won a gold medal in the women's 4x200 meter freestyle relay, a silver medal in the 400 meter individual medley, a bronze medal in the women's 200 meter individual medley, and a gold medal in the 200 meter backstroke. Following the Olympics, DiRado retired from the sport.

Emily Overholt is a Canadian former competitive swimmer. She has won bronze medals at the Olympic Games and FINA World Aquatics Championships, as well as a silver at the Commonwealth Games and three Pan American Games medals. Overholt also won three gold and a silver at the 2013 Canada Games as a representative for British Columbia.
Brian David Hill is a S13 Canadian para-swimmer who has competed in the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 Summer Paralympics and the 2007 Parapan American Games. He had won five gold medals, three silver medals and 3 bronze medals in his international career. Hill started swimming as a child and competitive swimming at the age of nine. He has won the British Columbia Blind Sports Award and Athlete of the Year Award.
Regan Smith is an American competitive swimmer. As of 2024, Smith trains under Bob Bowman with Longhorn Aquatics. She is the world junior record holder in the women's long course 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter backstroke, and world record holder in the long course 100-meter backstroke; and the former record holder in the 200-meter backstroke. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in three events representing the United States, winning a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke, a silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly, and a silver medal in the 4×100-meter medley relay. At the World Aquatics Championships, she won individual gold medals in the 200-meter backstroke in 2019 and the 100-meter backstroke in 2022 and a relay gold medal swimming the backstroke leg of the 4x100 medley relay in 2023.
Anastasia "Nastiya" Gorbenko is an Israeli competitive swimmer. She competes in the 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 200m breaststroke, 200m medley, 50m backstroke, 4 × 100m freestyle, 4 × 100m medley, 4 × 100m freestyle mixed, and 4 × 200m freestyle. She has won 4 World and European championships gold medals, competed at 2 Olympic finals, broken most of the Israeli national records for women and mixed relays, and is considered to be Israel's greatest swimmer of all time. In February 2024, Gorbenko won a silver medal at the Doha World Championships in the women's 400 meters individual medley. Gorbenko will represent Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in swimming in the 400 metre individual medley on July 29, and the 200 metre individual medley on August 1-3, in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris.
Summer McIntosh is a Canadian competitive swimmer. A four-time World Aquatics champion and two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist, she is the current world record holder in the women's 400 metre individual medley.
