The cuarta urna or fourth ballot box referendum was a plan by Honduran president Manuel Zelaya to run a non-binding referendum to consult the public regarding the administration of a second, binding referendum to convoke a constitutional assembly. The referendum was planned to run concurrently with the November 2009 presidential, congressional, and mayoral elections. Some Hondurans opposed the plan, including many politicians from the two largest parties. When Zelaya pushed ahead with plans for this referendum on whether to include a fourth ballot box, the Supreme Court issued a warrant for his arrest and the army expelled him from the country in a June 28 coup d'etat, precipitating the 2009 Honduran constitutional crisis.

Margarita Dabdoub Sikaffi is a Honduran politician. She is commonly known as Margie Dip. Dabdoub was the first female mayor of La Ceiba. She served as mayor of La Ceiba 1994–1998. Prior to entering electoral politics, Dabdoub worked as spokesperson for the Standard Fruit Company. She was named as governor of the Atlantida department by president Manuel Zelaya. Following the 2009 Honduran coup d'etat, that ousted Zelaya, Dabdoub declared that she had not been a 'cuartista' but opposed the coup.

He is the presenter of the TV programs 5 Deportivo and X-0 da Dinero, and has been called "El señor de la televisión". He was the founder of the Anti-Corruption Party in 2011 when he stood for President in the 2013 Honduran general election. He stood again in the 2017 Honduran general election for the political alliance Alianza de Oposición contra la Dictadura, made up of Liberty and Refoundation and the Innovation and Unity Party. He lost the election, but the Organization of American States called for a new vote amidst widespread irregularities.

General elections were held in Costa Rica on Sunday, 2 February 2014 to elect a new president, two vice presidents, and 57 Legislative Assembly lawmakers. In accordance with Article 132 of the constitution, incumbent President Laura Chinchilla Miranda was ineligible to run for a second consecutive term.
The National Restoration Party is a political party in Costa Rica. It was founded in 2005 by Carlos Avendaño Calvo mostly by dissidents of Costa Rica's historical Christian party, Costa Rican Renewal, after its then only deputy, Carlos Avendaño Calvo, left. Avendaño would successfully return to Congress because of the party from 2010 to 2014. Even though he had personal differences with Justo Orozco, both were able to work together in defending the same agenda, mainly the conservative views of the evangelical community. The party's candidate in the presidential election of 2014 was Avendaño, who received 1.35 percent of the vote.

On May 8, 2019 began a persecution against him by the regime of Nicolás Maduro when the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) requested to disqualify his parliamentary immunity to the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) with an imminent risk of arrest.
The 2020 municipal elections in Costa Rica were local elections in Costa Rica held on Sunday, February 2, 2020 to elect all municipal offices in the country; mayors, aldermen, syndics, district councilors and the intendants of eight special autonomous districts, together with their respective alternates in all cases. These will be the fifth direct municipal elections since the amendment to the 1998 Municipal Code and the second to be held mid-term since the 2009 reform.
