Jorge Alberto Furtado (born June 9, 1959) is a Brazilian film and television director and screenwriter.
Furtado attended university for courses in medicine, psychology, journalism and arts, but did not graduate. He began his professional career in the 1980s on a local channel TVE-RS working as reporter, presenter, editor, screenwriter and producer. In 1982 created a TV show Quizumba, that mixed fiction and documentary with very audacious language for the Brazilian public television.
Between 1984 and 1986, Furtado was director of the museum Museu de Comunicação Social Hipólito José da Costa in Porto Alegre. At the same time, with the help of José Pedro Goulart and Ana Luiza Azevedo, he created the company Luz Produções, where he made two short films and produced plays for theater. From 1986 to 1990, he made dozens of TV commercials.
In 1987, he was one of the founders of Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre, in which he still participates. In 1990, he worked on TV Globo making scripts for many TV series.
In 2008, Harvard University promoted an exhibition of his films called "Jorge Furtado's Porto Alegre". [1]

Isle of Flowers is a 1989 Brazilian short film by Jorge Furtado. It tracks the path of a tomato from grower to the child who collects it as food from a dump with the help of voiceover and a collection of illustrative images. The director stated the film was inspired by the works of Kurt Vonnegut and Alain Resnais, among others.

Joel Zito Araújo is a Brazilian film director, writer and producer of films and TV programs. Since 1984, Araújo has produced one feature film, two short films and 25 documentaries. Some of these works have won prizes or been selected for screenings at film festivals throughout the world. From 2006 to 2007, Araújo was president of the Brazilian Filmmakers Association. He received his Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from the Escola de Comunicações e Artes at the University of São Paulo in 1999. He was postdoctoral fellow and visiting professor in the Departments of Radio, TV, and Film and Anthropology as well as the Center for African & African-American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin from August 2001 to May 2002.
