Due to his modus operandi, the Spanish authorities consider him a serial killer. [4]

Background

Palma was born in the Colombian city of Ibagué. In 2004, the Spanish Civil Guard designated him as a member of a drug trafficking ring which centered around Extremadura. The organization linked him and 14 other people with the drug trade, and in the end, Palma admitted responsibility, claiming to have collected the haul from Algeciras and then taken it to Llerena. [5] For this, he was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment.

In 2008, he was arrested in Brescia, Italy for carrying and trafficking hallucinogenic substances (9 kilograms of cocaine were seized), accompanied by his grandfather and a fellow trafficker from Romania. He was additionally implicated in the trafficking of 300 grams of cocaine to Pamplona, Spain. [6]

Murders

Palma has been officially linked to the murder and subsequent dismemberment of 25-year-old Marta Calvo. After a series of investigations into the case, Palma confessed to butchering Calvo, dumping her body parts in different garbage containers. The search for her remains are ongoing. [7]

The authorities in Valencia, where the murder took place, are assured that Palma is responsible for several murders on the European continent, but so far has been tied to only two. One of them, a Colombian prostitute named Lady Marcela Vargas, with whom Palma had had sexual relations, was found dead in the Russafa neighborhood. The initial cause of death was thought to be an accidental drug overdose, but it was later determined that Palma likely forced her to take it.

He has also been formally charged with the death of Brazilian prostitute Arliene Ramos. Like the other cases, she had had sexual relations and used drugs together with Palma.

The Medellín Cartel was a powerful and highly organized Colombian drug cartel and terrorist organization originating in the city of Medellín, Colombia, that was founded and led by Pablo Escobar. It is often considered to be the first major "drug cartel" and was referred to as such; due to the organization's upper echelons and overall power-structure being built on a partnership between multiple Colombian traffickers operating alongside Escobar. Included were Jorge Luis Ochoa Vásquez, Fabio Ochoa Vásquez, Juan David Ochoa Vásquez, José Gonzalo Rodríguez Gacha and Carlos Lehder. Escobar's main partner in the organization however was his cousin Gustavo Gaviria who handled much of the cartel's shipping arrangements and the more general and detailed logistical aspects of the cocaine trafficking routes and international smuggling networks which were supplying at least 80% of the world's cocaine during its peak. Gustavo, also known as León seems to have also had a strong hand in the cartel's unprecedented acts of narcoterrorism, right alongside his cousin Pablo and was considered to be second in command of the cartel and therefore one of Colombia's most wanted men, with both him and Escobar having arrest warrants pending from other nations where their criminal activity had spread to, such as in Spain and the U.S. Meanwhile, Pablo Escobar's brother Roberto Escobar acted as the organization's accountant. The cartel operated from 1976 to 1993 in Colombia (Antioquia), Bolivia, Panama, Central America, Peru, the Bahamas, the United States, as well as in Canada.
