Jorge van Balen (born 23 April 1954) is a Venezuelan former swimmer. He competed in the men's 100 metre freestyle at the 1972 Summer Olympics. [1]
He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Simón Bolívar University in Venezuela and a master’s degree in Food Science at the University of California. As scientific researcher he developed a fruit and wine industry in tropical conditions and later became leader of a scientific lab. [2]
Next to that he coordinated a swimming program for children with special needs and was a board member of the Down Syndrome Association of Miami. [2]
