The Silicon Valley BART extension is an ongoing effort to expand the Green and Orange Line service by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) into Santa Clara County via the East Bay from its former terminus at the Fremont station in Alameda County. The Newby Island Landfill (NISL) is one of the largest active landfills on the shores of the San Francisco Bay. It is located in Santa Clara County,California in the United States. The site is located within the city limits of San Jose,California at the western terminus of Dixon Landing Road. The address is 1601 Dixon Landing Road,Milpitas. Although the address and public street access to the site are both in the City of Milpitas,the landfill property is entirely within the City of San Jose. Newby Island Landfill has a length of 5.07 km (3.15 mi). It is located West of the City of Milpitas near Dixon Landing Road and Interstate 880. It is the terminus for waste for all of San Jose (62%),Santa Clara (14%),Milpitas (10%),Cupertino (5%),Los Altos (2%) and other cities (7%). The 342-acre pile is currently permitted to operate until 2041 and may extend up to 245 feet. The landfill is an island surrounded by a levee which keeps its runoff from directly entering the bay,and the water that drains from it is treated in the landfill's own treatment plant. Electricity for the landfill is generated by burning the methane collected from the decomposition of the waste. Dried sewage sludge from the nearby San José–Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility is the material used as cover,mixed in with the trash,blending San Jose's waste streams. It is operated by Republic Services (Republic),which,along with Waste Management Incorporated,transports and disposes of most of the household trash in the United States.

San Jose Bike Party is a monthly social bicycle ride event in and around San Jose,California held on the third Friday of every month. Attendance varies with weather and time of year,usually ranging from hundreds in the winter months to low thousands in the summer. Established in 2007,it is the original 'bike party' now replicated in other cities around the world. Its motto is "Building community through cycling".
The Orange Line is a light rail line in Santa Clara County,California,and part of the VTA light rail system. It serves 26 stations in the cities of Mountain View,Sunnyvale,Santa Clara,Milpitas,and San Jose,traveling between Downtown Mountain View and Alum Rock stations,stopping at Ames Research Center,Great America,and Levi's Stadium along the way. The line connects to Caltrain at Mountain View and to the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system at Milpitas station. The line runs for 20 hours per day on weekdays,with headways of 15 minutes for most of the day. On weekends,the train runs at 20-minute headways for most of the day. After around 8 pm on weekdays and weekends trains run at 30-minute headways.
On May 26,2021,a mass shooting occurred at a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) rail yard in San Jose,California,United States. A 57-year-old VTA employee,Samuel James Cassidy,shot and killed nine VTA employees before killing himself. It is the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The 2022 San Jose mayoral election was held on November 8,2022,to elect the next mayor of San Jose for a two-year term. A top-two primary was held on June 7,2022,and no candidate received more than 50% in this primary election. Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez and San Jose City Councilmember Matt Mahan advanced to a November 8 runoff election. On November 16,Cindy Chavez conceded the race to Matt Mahan.
